More about American Vintage '65 Jaguar®

Disponibile in finiture Three-color Sunburst e Candy Apple Red in edizione limitata.

65 Jaguar silences longtime critics

I've owned Squier, Japanese Jaguars and a 1966 Vintage Jaguar over the years, so have a good knowledge base to compare these new '65 USA reissues.

The reissues available prior to these new '65 Jaguars are a long way from a vintage example indeed. Whereas this '65 is quality all-round. Out the case it smells, looks and feels high-quality. The CAR finish shows the wood grain of the light body. A guitar that meets 'first impressions count'.

Strapped on, the offset body feels incredibly well-balanced and finished, and the contours are vintage in feel; deep and smooth. The neck is a dream; a nice full feeling C-shape that is fast and still very manageable for small hands. More 'grown-up' than previous offerings, finished nicely with quality binding.

The pickups have a tremendous range and quality of tone to them, without customary single-coil hum due to the pick-up claw. From spikey/punch punk/grunge snarly on the bridge, to a rounded, sweet tonality bridge/neck together, to a full, warm neck pickup with much clarity. Using the bass-cut-slide switch the Jaguar sounds more hollow and subtle; perfect for those reverb drenched jangles. Switch into the rhythm section, and unlike a Jazzmaster, there isn't a notable drop-off in output or clarity. Instead, you have a very usable Jazz tone that sounds perfect for flat-fives and mixolydian scales.

The switches work very smoothly and without effort or clang; a vast improvement over Japanese offerings. The wrongly maligned bridge/tremolo is very smooth/responsive and excels at emotive shimmers and dives. The bridge mute adds to looks and excels at a providing a palm free mute sound; great for surf and more.

OK, these reissues are pricey. 13 Flatwounds are best on the bridge and Jag's are pretty crowded control-wise. However, they really are the closest Fender have come to vintage examples thus far outside Custom-Shop guitars. Across the range on offer, they're keeper guitars. Try one for a pleasant surprise!

This is a great guitar. I have no issues at all. The tremlock does not function in a reverse matter to the vintage models, like the reviewer below stated. It's exactly the same. I'm assuming he doesn't have the original '64 jag anymore and can not remember it well enough. The hardware is of good quality, as you would expect from an American Fender. The switches are of good quality as well. They did not rattle or move around much. They're better quality than the switches you see on the imports. The pots and wiring are all great. The only real gripe is the cost. It's a bit high. The AVRI '62 jag was expensive enough. This reissue is solid and very accurate.

I recently purchsed the subject item to fulfill a flashback to a new 1964 Jag I bought in 1964. The reissue has some of the same vibe as the original but I noticed a certain cheapness to the RI, with switches that rattle and feel cheap; the trem-lock worked backwards to the original and broke shortly after purchase and the knobs were off center when turned to full on or off. While the sound was good I guess they're never like remembered but it still had the short scale I love and is still fun to play. Overall I'd give the 62 AVRI a 6.5 out of 10.
