I purchased this guitar back in March of 2013. I had not played guitar in 20 years up to that point and was seriously wanting to get back in the swing of things but I did not want to spend a ridiculous amount of money for an American Tele. I almost purchased the Blacktop Tele because of the contoured body but then I saw a video on YouTube for this one. One what caught my was the versatility of this guitar, especially with the 2rd pickup. It can handle any genre of music. For someone who is a huge fan of both country and blues guitar, this was a match made in heaven for me. What really stands out with this guitar is the quality of the build. The Ensanada gang did a fantastic job! It truly feels like you own an American made Fender. The neck is phenomenal! For those who love the finish of a glossed neck but do not like that sticky feel up and down when chording, the satin finish is for you!! It truly feels like a vintage style finish with ease in playability. For those just starting out learning guitar, this is a great starting point! You can also get great acoustic style tones depending on what amp you are using. You cannot go wrong with this guitar. With the third pickup, you get a Strat feel without losing that classic Tele snap. Purchased this great instrument. You will not be disappointed!

I've owned several Fender guitars through the last 30 years but this Deluxe Blackout Tele is one of the most satisfying ... most significantly, it takes the classic Tele simplicity and adds a 3rd (middle) pickup and 5-way switching ... not quite a Strat, but allows for ventures into "Strat Territory" as I call it ... but make no mistake, this is a Tele ...
The 2nd most significant thing that I notice everytime I pick it up to play is how solid and well built this thing is (it wouldn't be a Tele otherwise, right?); but seriously, I picked this one up at the shop and even among other Tele's it felt special and substantial ... it has the feel of a much more expensive guitar ... like 2 to 3 times it's price more expensive ... one of the best feeling and playing necks I've felt on a Fender ... I like the satin neck finish and it is a beautiful piece of solid maple with a tint that speaks "vintage" ...
I have to give everything about this Tele 5 stars with the exception of features which gets 4 only because of what I think is a no-brainer ommission ... while it has the 5-way switch and the Strat-like pickup combos, there is no way to get the classic Tele neck/bridge combo ... this was easily and cheaply remedied by a mod that installs a push-pull tone pot that engages the neck pickup on demand ... I found this to be a MUST ... now I truly have all Tele if I want but with the option of just the right amount of "Strat Territory" with the 5-way/3 pickup configuration.
In summary, I consider the Deluxe Blackout as a premium Tele with enhanced tonal possibilities without sacrifcing the classic Tele single coil signature "magic" essential to so many players. I could not be more satisfied with this guitar for the price. I highly recommend it.
