When Kurt Cobain hit the stage, it was very often with a Mustang® guitar—an enigmatic anti-hero figure with an esoteric anti-hero instrument. It's with great pride then that Fender introduces the Kurt Cobain Mustang guitar, which evokes the man, the band, the sound and the times, and gives an authentically crafted nod to one of the most unlikely guitars to ever find itself at the center of a musical maelstrom.
Kurt Cobain liked Mustang guitars a lot. For one, he preferred offbeat guitars that didn't cost zillions of dollars, and the Mustang certainly fit those two criteria. Also, being somewhat physically diminutive himself, he liked to perform live with slightly more diminutive guitars, like the Fender Mustang and Jaguar, which better fit his hands and his reach.
Inspired by his arsenal of modded guitars, the new Fender Kurt Cobain Mustang takes you back there, with highly distinctive features including an angled single-coil Mustang neck pickup and ferocious Seymour Duncan® JB humbucking bridge pickup mounted directly to the body, dual on-off/phase in-out switches for each pickup, a polyester-finished alder body and an Adjusto-Matic™ bridge with dynamic vibrato tailpiece.

I've wanted a Fender Mustang since I first saw and played one in 1990. It was a 1967 Mustang that belonged to my dad's friend. I couldn't find one in a music shop till 2012. It's my favorite electric guitar. It's the Kurt Cobain Dark Blue with stripes.
First I must tell you a problem I had that is easily fixed. On my guitar I had to adjust the height of the tailpiece in order to keep the guitar from getting out of tune after using the tremolo arm. It was set up too high so that it wouldn't return to the original position after using. Once you lower it enough lt won't get out of tune. Also if you find that the high E and B strings get out of tune you should probably loosen the metal thing on the headstock that pulls them down.
The pickups are incredible with a ton of tonal options because of the two switches. I love the shorter scale, and my hands wrap around the small neck quite well. I love the color and the stripes, plus, I think that the shape of the Mustang is the coolest of the Fender line up. From dirty to clean, Funk to Punk, this is the guitar of my dreams.

Picked this one up a couple of months ago. As a Nirvana fan, this was a dream come true and it's a really great guitar to play. From the factory the set up was poor, intonation and action was of with lots of buzz, minor fixes though. Once setup this thing is great to play, neck feels great and I like the shorter neck scale. Both picksups are quiet and with the various switches this thing goes from pleasant clean tones on the neck pickup to hard overdrive with bridge pickup and many places in between. Only real negative point, as with all mustangs is the tremolo, it will cause this thing to go out of tune just by resting your hand on it, but I never use it anyway, so not a big deal. Overall, I love this guitar and it has a special place in my collection.
