Pure ’60s Mustang Style
A must-have for Mustang fans everywhere. The Classic Series ’65 Mustang authentically evokes the very first full model year of Fender’s most popular student-model guitar, which later went on to great pro-level success in the hands of artists such as David Byrne, John Frusciante, Kurt Cobain, Todd Rundgren and Adrian Belew, to name only a few. It’s ideal for those who aspire to original-era Mustang sound and style, with a poplar body in great mid-’60s finishes, shorter scale length, dual pickups with versatile switching and much more.

    Vintage-Style Frets
    Vintage-Style Frets

This is the smallest fret size, neither as tall nor as wide as medium jumbo frets. This is how we used to make them back in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, and is the comfortable way to go for those who grew up with it or simply just prefer the feel of smaller frets.

    7.25” Fingerboard Radius

The fingerboard radius is an important spec that describes the amount of curvature across the width of the fingerboard. This instrument has a 7.25” fingerboard radius, with a more pronounced “vintage-style” curvature typical of Fender guitars from the 1950s, ’60 and ’70s. It’s the way to go for those who grew up with vintage instruments or simply prefer the feel of greater fingerboard curvature.

    On/Off Phase Switching
    On/Off Phase Switching

The Classic Series ’65 Mustang features the notable tonal versatility of on/off slider switches for each of the two pickups that also put each pickup in phase or out of phase. All together, it puts a wealth of tonal configurations at your fingertips.

    Single-Coil Mustang Pickups
    Single-Coil Mustang Pickups

For pure tone and style that authentically evokes the 1965 model year, the Classic Series ’65 Mustang features dual slanted single-coil Mustang pickups.

    24” Scale Length
    24” Scale Length

This is the classic shorter scale originally offered during the 1960s on Fender classics such as the Jaguar and Mustang guitars. Originally adopted to appeal to those already comfortable with the slightly shorter scales of guitars by other makers, the 24” scale remains a classic Fender design element still offered today.

    “C” Neck Profile
    “C” Neck Profile

The neck of this instrument has a comfortable “C” profile (the shape of the neck in cross section), sculpted to impart a vintage-style playing feel from Fender’s first golden age in the 1950s and ’60s. The most prevalent neck profile shape, it’s remarkably comfortable and is ideal for all playing styles.
