More about Fender Select Thinline Telecaster® with Gold Hardware

Absolutely INCREDIBLE

I was always a little scared about the Thinline guitars, thinking that less mass meant less tone. But, boy, was I wrong. This little dude is an incredible instrument. It's one of the finest sounding telecasters I've ever played. Twang, bite, punch, whatever you're looking for, you'll find it right here. DO NOT hesitate to pick this thing up, wherever you may see one, and give it a spin. You won't be disappointed, I promise. 5 Stars across the board from me.

How to improve on a '53 blackguard Tele? Answer: Make it more reliable in terms of tuning, take the gloss off the neck and sweeten rather than change the tone of Leo's magic, single-coil Telecaster pickups.
Lighten the whole deal by making it semi-hollow bodied and give each string a pukka bent-steel saddle and you have, in this writer's opinion, perhaps the only - certainly the most effective - real improvement on the timeless design of the Tele.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it, says the old adage. For that very reason serious guitar players too numerous and talented to name have sought out "original" Teles i.e. anything up to either 1959 (when rosewood fretboards were first specified on Fenders) and/or 1965 (the point at which Fender became CBS property) since 1949 and the advent of the world's first production electric Spanish guitar.
Anything else has always been a compromise - until now. Having owned (at a guesstimate) more than 50 different Telecasters in my 49 years as a player, I can only say the Fender Select Thinline has become my guitar of choice because it has all but all the key features of a good Tele rolled into one very pretty and lightweight package.
It may look like a show pony but I was gigging with it within 24 hours of taking delivery and it had both bandmates and members of the audience asking: "What is that beautiful -sounding instrument?"
I know this review is anecdotal. It is deliberately so because you can get the tech specs at Fender's website. All I have to add is that this baby does exactly what it says on the tin - better than any "standard" Tele or Custom Shop Nocaster I have owned.
That's all she wrote folks. Go figure.
