I already own a Fender Jaguar Bass (Japanese) and was so pleased that I had to buy the Fender American Standard Jaguar bass. It was purchased through Sweetwater and was set up masterfully.
I made a very minor tension adjustment and headed of to practice just after I got it. I don't know what it is, but even with action a micro-tad higher than I usually use, it plays so easily. I own P-basses and J-basses, but the Jaguar, after all of these years is my bass. It's so cool.
Minor glitch ... J-bass pickup doesn't output as well as the P-bass pickup, and I think it's only a matter of adjusting the pickup height. Compared to the Japanese Jaguar bass, this one is totally noise free. The Japanese bass, I had to shield everything under the pick guard and that now works fine.
Rock and roll!

I've been a loyal Jaguar bass player for many years. I've owned 3 different colors; black, olympic white and a sunburst that I bought in Tokyo. I've always loved the tone, but when I saw the Jaguar was available with a p/j configuration and Made in America, I had to try it. I traded in a Custom Shop Jazz Bass to get it. I was very leery of trading the Custom Shop, but it turned out to be a great decision. I play in a band that plays instrumental surf, rock and blues. We play a wide range of music. From Dick Dale, The Astronauts, The Chantay's, The Pyramids, The Ventures to Fats Domino, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Robin Trower, Slim Harpo, B.B. King, etc. This bass can play it all. Compared to the Japanese models of the Jaguar bass, the tone knob seems to have more dynamic range, the pickups are higher quality, the neck is stronger (better wood), smooth and plays fast, the tuners are higher quality. I string mine through the body and the sustain goes on forever (you can go and have a bite and you'll still be hearing that one...) I usually play in passive, but the active sounds great also. Note that the Japanese models use a single 9 volt battery for active. The American uses two (2) 9 volt batteries for active. Everything about this bass is better. I gig with either the Bassman TV15 or the Bassman TV DuoTen and this bass sounds incredible through these amps (wish Fender didn't discontinue these amps). Don't hesitate to pick up this one. I love mine.

Saw this bass online and got it. Very nice player, restrung it with LaBella white nylon wrapped flatwounds and it rocks. I was surprised that there were no switching instructions included. It is not really intuitive, there are online but it would help. Very nice addition to my arsenal.
