Best Guitar I Own By Far

I have been playing guitar for many years, as a performer, songwriter, and composer. I own quite a few guitars and have a decent collection of Gibsons, Fenders and Martins.. I never did get into strats though for some reason. I guess I just never played the right one for me. That all changed on a visit to Norman's Rare Guitars in L.A. As soon as I saw this beautiful guitar I was mesmerized. I put down the Black custom tele I was considering and picked up the strat. Right away this guitar felt so natural in my hands. The fret board was amazing, the weight was perfect, and it sounded great without being plugged in... A good sign for any electric guitar. When I did plug into a Fender deluxe amp I wasn't disappointed. The tone and character had so much mojo, I knew right away I was taking it home with me and I'm glad I did. You can't beat this axe in my opinion. It feels like it came from the custom shop without the price tag. This guitar is the one!!

The 60th Anniversary Com. Strat is a superb guitar. The neck is easy to play. Set up was great. No changes done. Right out of the box. You can easily imitate the sound of 70s or 80s Wishbone Ash by Laurie Wisefield who played a 54 Strat. Love the light weight one piece beautiful ash body.

I haven't played for a while, and decided to start playing again. I've had a couple of Stratocasters before this one, and my last guitar was a Les Paul. This guitar is so easy and comfortable to play, I love the feel of the neck and the tone is nice and warm.

I would get this guitar while it's still available.

My first Strat was a JV made (I think) in 1984. It's a lovely guitar. My second, was a '57 CP made in 2006 - also very good. But now I have this model I don't need another. This guitar is awesome - the neck is perhaps the best on any guitar I own - incredibly comfortable and fast - and the weight of the instrumentt seems just right to me. My only niggle is that the strings fitted are 9's and they flap about like sail in the breeze. I have fitted 10's - much better.

20 years of playing guitar, 20 years of yearning. Since day 1 I've wanted an American Strat. It's just never really worked out or been economically feasible for me. I own a Squier Classic Vibe Strat and 2 MIM strats. I have an American Tele. I have a pile of other guitars. But I've never managed to get the Holy Grail into my possession.

But now I have it. And I couldn't be happier! I love this instrument. It's beautiful, comfortable, fast. It looks special and sounds like it is too. I would have been happy with a MIA Standard but I'm happier to have a little piece of history.

The day I brought it home I swapped the strings (9-42) out for a heavier gauge (11-52) as is my preference. It threw the bridge out of whack and bowed the neck. I still loved it. Last night I took the time to do a proper set up and am blown away by how well this plays.

The nut obviously needed the channels widened for the heavier strings. To get it to an optimal set up it did require deepening the channels a bit, but not dramatically. I'm thinking Fender leaves them a bit shallow to accommodate for wear over the years. The frets needed nothing. Absolutely nothing. And I live in a very dry Northern climate that normally wreaks havoc on guitars. I've had to shave the fret ends of every instrument I've ever purchased, but not this one. Maybe that will change in the depths of February but it's perfect right now.

Quick truss rod adjustments got the neck back to an ideal bow. The set up on the saddles and bridge springs was pretty standard. No surprises. But the thing that just blew me away was how good it sounded when playing past the 12th fret after the intonation was adjusted. Pure, chimey like a Strat should be. The pickups sound great and were set up very well from factory.

Something Special

Lt Col Taylor on October 2, 2014 (updated October 2, 2014)
Blues Jazz Alternative Rock Classic Rock Pop Rock Folk Country Reggae/Ska

This is my third American Strat (following two Chinese and a Mexican). I have two American Specials, one stock with Texas Special Pickups, one modified with N3 noiseless and and S-1 switch. These are my studio / stage mainstays and I wanted to own something REALLY special, so I traded my Les Paul (which has been gathering dust since I fell in love with Strats) @ Sam Ash in Pompano, FL. I got a great deal and wound up with what I was looking for - A VERY SPECIAL GUITAR.

Every detail of this offering from the embroidery on the case lining to the headstock medallion scream "SPECIAL" but these are just window dressing. The real magic is in the compound radius fretboard and the distinctive 1954 special pickups, which make this beauty sound like no other Strat I've every owned. If I was offered (complete fantasy) a signature instrument opportunity, I'd just pull this baby out of the case and sign my name on the headstock with a Sharpie! I regard this as a Custom-Shop Quality instrument at a ridiculously affordable price. THANK YOU FENDER! I'm sure Leo would have been pleased.

Best Strat I ever owned

(5.0)
kiplandiles on September 16, 2014
Blues R&B Funk Jazz Rock Classic Rock Pop Rock Folk Country

Having owned a number of Fenders since the 60's (teles and strats) I have always loved the sound and play-ability of these guitars. I have also owned/played Gibson, Ibanez, Hagstrom, SIlvertone, G&L, Peavey, and a few others. I wore out my 72 Strat and sold it for dirt and had to give up my SRV Edition Strat during hard times. When I went looking for a new Strat I still had the SRV in mind but really wanted a slimmer maple neck like my old 72 but liked the gold against the Tobacco burst of the SRV. While searching I played a few American Standards that played and sounded good but none really had that "gotta have it" appeal. Then I happened by chance into a local Guitar Center and saw this beauty top-shelf front and center. I thought "Man, they must have read my mind". I spent about an hour playing it through a few different rigs and walked out proudly with my new Strat.

I have to give this Strat a 5 out of 5. I have yet to find anything that I don't like about it. It plays wonderfully, has that Strat growl on the neck PUP, and has much more flexibility on the middle and bridge PUPs thanks to the upgraded tone circuitry. Having moved up to 10s while gigging with the SRV I initially thought the 9s where a bit flimsy but after a week of playing this guitar strung with 9s I remember why I used them before. I just works. The fit and finish are perfect, the neck feels very natural and fast, the setup was perfect, no buzzing or intonation issues, the tone is what I expected through even my BOSS ME-50 pedal.

This guitar delivers on the promise of a Fender Strat. It is now, and will likely be my favorite guitar for some time. I could have spent more and still been happy but for the price you can't go wrong. If you like Strats then this Strat is where it's at.

My First Fender Stratocaster !

Blues Funk Jazz Alternative Rock Classic Rock Pop Rock Heavy Metal Classical

I was influenced at a very early age by the unique sound, tone and character of the Fender Stratocaster, although not aware, I owned another guitar rather than a Strat, years gone by and found out that my instrument didn't really produce the character and nuances that only a Fender Stratocaster can offer. I started dreaming about it for years, and just right after my Eurovision Young Musicians 2014 experience was over I got my hands on a piece of history. I finally own a 60th Anniversary Commemorative Stratocaster. She is just beautiful, the gold hardware makes her stand out from the other instruments. The tone is smooth, sparkingly bright and with 60-years of non-stop history making in popular music. This guitar has a unique tone. A Fender Stratocaster tone! Plus to make this guitar even better, It's very modern in it's features, it has 22 frets, Micro-Tilt mechanism on the neck and Vintage 1954 Pickups. It still retains the character of a vintage Fender Stratocaster though. I gave this beauty a 5/5 in any aspect. Definitely a must have guitar !!

Rockin the 60s

Andy on June 25, 2014

My son tried one of these out while shopping for new strings. We brought home new strings with the 60th Anniv. Strat attached. Awesome guitar!! Great feel and action - the neck and the pickups are Sweet. Much different and more authentic, vintage tone than his old American Strat that was made in 2004 (not an Anniversary Model, but made that year) that we traded in, or my Clapton Blackie with Lace PUPS.

Fender did such a great job on the 60th Anniversary Standard I had to buy one for myself since my son won't let go of his. We run them through a '65 Princeton Reverb reissue and/or a '65 Reissue Super Reverb FSR and the sound is pure Fender at its best.

I don't know how a '54 Reissue 60th Anniv. Strat would sound in comparison, but the sound, tone, and build quality of these 60th Anniversary. American Standards sets the bar very high.

The Strat and the Love affair!

Blues Funk Alternative Rock Classic Rock Country Bluegrass

After 17 years of playing my Beloved 1995 Japanese Foto Flame Telecaster Deluxe I recently lost in a bar fire, I had to get another Fender soon. Looking at the Telecasters on the showroom wall I meandered to the end of the Tele line and accidentally into the Stratocaster section.
Picking up the 60th anniversary model as it was already plugged into a warming 59 Bassman Reissue. "Just got it in!!" Timmy shouted..."hasn't even been tuned!"

The tone, the playability!! I was instantly mesmerized by her beautiful Ash body and the 2-color sunburst which is gorgeous accented by the gold hardware. Looking closer I noticed the Black Abalone dot inlays. Finally that woman tone I had always longed for only a Stratocaster can produce. The 1954 Single Coils are beautiful pickups, very chimey in all the right places and smooth in all the others.

Playability is second to none, by far one of the best playing guitars I have owned right out of the box. Everything very smooth out of the gate, perfect action, no buzz, and I got comfy real quick with the tremolo bar. The guitar itself is just smooth, makes me want to solo all day long.
There's nothing like a fender plugged into a fender and playing the commemorative Strat through that 59 Bassman was some of the sweetest direct tone ever.
I played for almost an hour after strings were tuned and stretched, I just couldn't let her go.
Soon greenbacks and handshakes were exchanged, the Vintage Tweed case was brought out with all of the goodies and she nestled right in for the trip home.
By the way....her name is Grace!!

Having owned and played various guitars I finally decided to get the real thing. Its been in the back of my mind for years .
I started looking in 2012 and I liked the two tone sunburst though that wasn't available in am standard , then I saw this on the fender website.
Wow what is that ,thinking it must be custom shop.
I bought one just on the picture and its everything I'd hoped for.

I have always wanted an American USA made Fender Guitar. Normally, when I walk into a music/guitar store I see guitars and they all kinda look the same nothing really special same usual... I then turn and see this guitar and literally fell in love. I couldn't look any other way. It was the most beautiful guitar I have ever seen. I couldn't pass it up and the fact that their is a limited quantity makes it even a must buy! When you hold this masterpiece in your hands you will understand that it's like no other. It literally melts in your hands. Also, all the stuff it comes with is even sweeter. This will be my first Fender and I have waited a long time. I'm so happy with this purchase. I always tell people that an instrument is an extension of you. It becomes a part of your life and in someways who you are. I feel that Leo Fender would agree with me on that. I guess I'm now a part of the Fender family! That's just awesome!

This affordable guitar offers many of the features I have wanted in my "next" strat..primarily, the compound radius fretboard, which adds to improved string bending ability. As well, I love the tone from the PUPs. Aesthetically, this model is unique, with the gold hardware and White Pearloid tuner buttons. Though my first strat, in 1963, was a three tone sunburst, that I liked so much, the two tone comes in a close second, since that is the only finish available. All-n-all, as an old timer, I enjoy the beauty and workmanship of this guitar, which adds to enjoying my memories of the famous stratocaster, as I play this through my vintage, and originally owned, 62 Fender Concert and 68 Bandmaster amps.

I turned 50 when the Stratocaster turned 50.
To me, owning the 50th anniversary model was a cherry on an infatuation and relationship that started when I was a 9 year old boy. I sat for hours staring at my Billy Strange album with all the Strats on the cover and wondered when I would own one.
I've owner many over the years since then and currently have 4 beautiful babies that are absolutely amazing.
I wish I could afford the exchange rate to own the 60th Anniversary model as well, but I cannot justify it, however hard I try. BUT I am so happy with the ones I own and consider myself fortunate to be a proud owner of a 50th Ann. model.
I can only imagine the perfection of the new one.

When Fender announced they would release 60th anniversary guitars, I knew I would have to get as I am also celebrating the same birthday this year.

All of the models look superb but for me it had to be the Commemorative Stratocaster, it just oozes class with the 2-tone sunburst finish, pearl tuners and the gold hardware.

Picking up the guitar, plugging it in and turning up the amp just adds to feelgood factor as it sounds as good as it looks - it is a wonderful guitar and a fitting tribute to the world's greatest ever musical instrument. Well done Fender!

I worked for Leo back in the mid 80's when he started G&L, but never owned a Fender until this weekend.
I am used to the latest super thin necks, and high-output active humbuckers, so at first I was kind of dissatisfied with the standard Strat.
Tell you what, after two hours of playing, and adjusting tone and getting to know it...I could not put it down. It has a certain feel that just grew on me real quick. I'm very happy with mine. One thing I had to do is order shorter saddle height screws. I like my action about 1mm at the 12th fret, and lowering it made the stock screws stick up and scrape my muting hand.
Fender should supply them with the guitar.

Best strat ever

(5.0)
780_laffin on March 31, 2014 (updated March 31, 2014)
Blues Rock

I have owned a few high end American made strats over the years including a 2006 American deluxe HSS in sunburst and a 2012 American deluxe SSS ash body in a nice tobacco burst. This guitar exceeds both of them.
The sound is a balance of vintage and modern as it does the natural spot on strat clean but also can handle the overdriven sounds of my Budda amp. At moderate gain settings the guitar is very quiet with little hum to be heard. Having the pickups wired just on the hot side works perfectly. They are much better sounding than the current deluxe strat pickups. I could sit and play on the neck pickup only and be very happy.
The neck feels amazing and the compound radius makes notes anywhere on the fretboard easy to play.
This is my first strat without a rosewood fretboard and i dont think i will ever go back. The maple just has that pop to the sound that stands out. The trem stays in tune better than any start i have ever played on. The action was pretty standard and sits perfect for me. The neck is very straight with just the right amount of relief. The bridge sits up on the back end just a hair so i can bend the pitch slightly up and still stays in tune. The case is a great feature. The classic tweed case is a nice touch and of course all the 60th anniversary touches on the guitar and the case are awesome.
It is truly too nice to play however i have found a guitar that has brought new life to my playing. I am very inspired when i have this instrument in my hands. It has an amazing feel or vibe to it that i cannot put into words. This is a special instrument that i will cherish forever.

I own several guitars. All special in their own way. I have attempted to pickup Strats in the past based on the fact you can not get strat tone from anything else! Every time I have attempted to buy one, I could never find that one that felt right. The necks never worked for me, I thought I would never find a Fender Strat. Until last week. I walked in looking for a pedal power supply. Then she caught my eye. The stunning look of this Strat had me thinking, Deluxe?, Select?,... no, she's an American Standard 60th anniversary. I picked her up and instantly fell in love with the neck. Plugged her in and WOW! This guitar has so much more going for her than any other Strat (IMHO). I love Charvel Pro-Mod necks, very close to that! Fit and finish is excellent! Upgrades from an American Standard can't compare. More like a deluxe with better pickups, again IMHO. Case candy galore and pearloid tunning keys and black pearloid dot inlays! Thank you Fender! I own a Strat, finally!
