Squier Jaguar Bass

(5.0)

I have had this bass for about a year and a half now, and it's a 2011 model. I have never had any trouble with this instrument. It sounds awesome! It's really nice to play and at least one person comments on it at gigs about how good it looks. The moment I saw it I had to have it, and I was not disappointed! I play in a rock band and it is perfect for what we play, but to show how versatile it is, one of my friends has the exact same bass and he plays in the schools Jazz Band, and he loves his as well! The only fault I have found is the battery box on the back for the active circuit is a bit flimsy, but like I said before, it's never let me down and I won't mark it down for that as I love it!

This is easily the greatest non-precision or jazz bass I've played considering how much I payed for it. The finish is perfect, the neck feels heavenly and the tone is outstanding. The only minor problems I have, is that when I got it, the j pickup was really weak on the treble side and the volume controls only really work after about 50%. Aside from those, this is a brilliant instrument and plays fantastically. Definitely worth buying

It asks if you own this item. I bought it for my Step-Son. I have 7 Fender and Squier Basses. I am a working musician and have been using Fender gear since 1983. My stepson and i are very close, we really bonded over music. He showed in interest in my instruments and i let him play them. I don't let him play all my instruments, but he really liked a couple of my fender basses. I found this bass at a music store on my honeymoon. I had my stepson Randy in mind when i saw this. I was super impressed. It was a super light instrument very much like my 1990 JP-90. the bridge is like my other Fender units so I knew it was more than adequate. The tuners were very smooth with a nice ratio. We took this bass right out of the box. I love Fender Strings...the gauge was right for me. I grabbed the allen wrenches that came with it and did a quickie action set and tightened the truss rod 1/4 turn. I plugged into a Rumble 100 and played it for about 15 minutes. The input jack is pretty tight which is good. The active electronics are very hot. It gives a boost but keeps the tone the same. The control knobs for the volume have a nice sweep, the tone knob isn't as sensitive, but it works ok for me. I paid under $200 for it so I cant complain. I bought a mid range Fender gig bag that has done a nice job. Randy is in love with my 1967 Ventures Model Mosrite Bass. It has flatwound strings as does my 1996 MIM Fretless Jazz Bass. He wanted to put flats on his jaguar bass. I took the original strings and put on one of my Fender Basses, The flatwounds work great on this bass, The are a slightly heavier gauge and i had to adjust the truss rod a little. Randy came with me to a private party gig and wanted to hear his instrument in a band. This is a very good instrument especially the price range too. I have the Squier Jag Bass but the next model higher in the line. I got great tones from it and it has a fantastic neck....fret work was well above average. Kudo's to Fender for making a great bas

Actually a great bass, EXCEPT the cheap bass boost feature.
In my humble opinion this cheap piece of garbage has no place in an otherwise excellent bass. It's a tone robbing piece of junk and is the ONLY reason the bass needs a power supply. 100% of the complaints I've read on various sites about this bass's tonal limitations are easily remedied by removing the three screws that hold the switch plate on, snipping the wires to the pot, removing the pot and connecting the pickups to the tone knob and jack. So aside from removing the cheap bass boost, I've shaved the neck joint to lower the neck and added a slight angle allowing for the truss rod to be dialed to set the neck dead on straight, this was immediately followed by lowering the bridges almost completely placing the strings height at the thickness of each string at the last fret...low and fast, no buzz. Had to tend to a couple of the frets which were not properly aligned. All in all though I can't complain.
I paid a whopping $188 when they first released this model. So it was a hell of a lot of bass for the money.

How can Squier offer so much for so few $s

Like any instrument I plan on buying, I do my homework first. First, I check out the reviews. Second, I listen to the demos on you tube through good speakers. Finally, I go to the store and compare the model against the competition. After this Squier passed the first two on the check list with flying colors, I was extremely anxious to go play one. I picked one up. Light weight and comfortable. Plugged it into a Ampeg combo with a12. Since I have very large hands, thick fingers and flat fingertips, the neck design is the first, make or break item that must pass the test. This neck is thin, wide and fast. Check. Next, does it have what it takes to cut through the mix of powerful guitar riffs and a drummer that brings it? It's active electronics really makes this bass hold it own. Check. Does it offer a variety of tonal option to make it through a playlist of songs that vary greatly from song to song? I am still discovering the many ripping options and I would have been satisfied with what I have already discovered. I covers all the bases, no matter what the genre. Check. How does it stack up against the competition in it's price range? Blew them all away. Compared it against all the MIM Fenders in the shop. Then I stepped up the competition. It took on the Ibanez and warwick models that were hundreds more. I play in a band where I have the opportunity to play multiple bass leads within each song. This bass makes my solos stand to memory, equal to the guitar solos, which use to showcase in our arrangements. Luckily, our guitarist is as stoked as I am about the new sound characteristic I can now contribute. Final check and Sale. I own the top of the line 5 string active Washburn and a acoustic/electric fretless Ovation. Both great guitars for what they offer. But, for what they don't produce, this Squier fills all remaining tonal options I've ever hoped/wanted to provide. I feel confident, I have a quiver of basses that lacks for nothing. It's Nitrous

For a first bass this is highly recommended. As an additional bass, you may be leaving your other basses at home.

Having both a precision and jazz pickup in one bass makes for one versatile instrument. You don't need another bass to get a different sound.

I ordered the three tone sunburst from my local music store. The setup is incredible at this price point.

Semi-Professional Alternative Rock

I am primarily a guitar player and own a USA Strat. I needed a bass for recording and on a tight budget. I picked up this bass in crimson transparent at a great price. The active bass makes an enormous difference and keeps a lot of definition in the sound. Everything seems solid and I can't see anywhere that regular wear and tear would be an issue. The fit and feel of this bass is excellent. The folks at McCann's Music Centre did a great job of a set-up.

The entire experience has inspired me to play bass guitar a lot more, and I really mean a lot lot more, than I ever have or thought I would want too. I have always been just enough of a bass player to lay down a solid line for a song but now I am thoroughly into really applying myself to the instrument. It really is that enjoyable to play.

Terrific job Squier / Fender! You certainly exceeded my expectations with this item.

This is probably my favorite of the three Squier VM basses I own and play. It wears a set of Fender 9050L flatwound strings on it and makes classic bass tones so easily. The only thing missing is a Rumble 350 Amp. :-)
