I picked up one of these at a pawn shop for $75 not expecting much. When I got it home and plugged it in I could not believe the sound. Classic Strat tones, SRV to David Gilmore and for less than a set of Tex Mex pickups! The finish was flawless, neck is great, tuning stable. One on the best guitars "off the rack" I have played. The mirrored pickguard was not my thing so I put on a Fender black 3 layer and replaced the switch with a Fender 5 way.
One more thing I have found. A lot of "experts" on various forums recommend replacing the 500k pots in this guitar with 250ks. I tried it and it lost something. The pickups, although not particularly hot are on the warm side, like Texas Specials that come in an SRV Strat. SRV model strats are known to be dark, too dark to get the SRV sound. Long story short the 500k pots that are in the guitar IMHO are the way to go. The tempting thing about a guitar in this price range is to change it for changes sake. I thought the pot value change would improve it, it didn't. Out of the box this guitar has pro level sound and playability. Don't fix it, enjoy it!

Well I DO own this guitar, and I have nothing but praise for it. Purchased it around 4 months ago as my first 'Squier' though I have a Fender Strat, and I have hardly put it down since, even though i have a couple of much more expensive guitars and I bought this for the colour scheme and to 'upgrade', I simply have found no reason to do so.
The Bridge 'bucker has a great tone, all the way up to the classic neck single coil tone ringing like a bell, there is no mistaking this for a 'copy' Fender product, it feels like the real deal. Great feeling and looking neck (love the matching oversize headstock) and the tuners stay in pitch just fine (I have blocked off the Trem..would love a hardtail version!)
My SOLE issue was a bit of loose movement in the Trem arm (that I dont use at all) that can be fixed by filling the hole or wrapping the trems screw in PTFE tape or something.
The bridge is great and is not going to be cutting any strings with the nice smooth pockets in the saddles that the strings sit in...far in advance of the 'Sharp string cutter' Tune o matic type.
The guitar arrived for me in a good state og setup, needed no intonation or much fiddling since I bought it, except slightly raising the Low E to cure a tiny Fret Buzz at the 12th fret, and that was it!
It would have been nice to have got a 'Tool kit' with the axe, with some allen keys, and maybe a sheet with the complete spec (pot values and all that) but the info is mostly available online.
My favorite part, aside from the great sounding 'bucker (single coil are fine too, but the 'bucker I really love) my favorite part is that neck. Give me the satin over the gloss anyday, and it has a rather nice 'marbling' in it, with the rosewood insert looking and feeling much more expensive than it is.
Im really pleased with my purchase, and will be exploring the other series in the future.

Although I don't own this guitar, I wish I do. I recently played it at a music store and I was shocked at what a quality guitar it is. Not only is it extremely playable, but it sounds as good as just about any high-end Fender I've ever heard. A very quality and recomendable guitar that also has an extremely affordable price for what it is. Worth every penny!
