Fender's Mark Hoppus Jazz Bass® guitar is the perfect punk-pop bass-as powerful and addictive as a blink-182 hit. Distinctive since its 2002 introduction as a Jazz Bass with a split single-coil Precision Bass® pickup, it now has a new sonic formula. For the updated version of his signature model, Mark has reversed the pickup, with the upper half now on the treble side, delivering supercharged throat and fullness from the D and G strings; and the lower half now on the bass side, adding focused snap and brightness to the E and A strings. A unique modification for nonconformists.
Features include an ash body, maple neck with modern "C" shape and 1.625" nut width (wider than the 1.5" standard for Jazz Bass guitars), rosewood fretboard with 9.5" radius and medium jumbo frets, reversed Seymour Duncan® Basslines SPB-3 Quarter Pound™ split-coil Precision Bass pickup, single chrome control knob (volume), combination strings-through-body bridge with American series plate and Standard series saddles and screws, and one-piece Jazz Bass pickguard (four-ply white pearloid on Surf Green model, four-ply tortoise shell on White Blonde model). Available in Surf Green transparent and new White Blonde.

I used to look at Fender bass guitars and think they are a bit dull. Then I got this and my mind has been changed. This bass has added a different sound to my band. I fell in love with this as soon as I plugged it in. I play everything from punk to heavy metal and everything in between and it never misses a beat. The only thing I have changed on this is the scratch plate as I think its a bit ugly. I have put a proper Jazz scratch plate and control plate. All in black. If you want a top bass that screams get this bass.
Fender, you guys really have changed my mind on the bass guitar and the way it can be played. Thank you.

honestly flipping the P-bass pickups was pure genius. It really opens up the bass to play many styles... obviously it's not in the Jazz bass area of versatility but it delivers exactly what is expected and then opens up to more! (which makes it a 5 to me!)
i love that there is no tone control, typically the amp is set for go and you play; in my opinion making that knob out to be a distraction, and a place where wires can fault and kill tone. which is something these pick ups are a fountain of; tone and volume!
The jazz cut body is so much more comfortable than standard P-bass, but the P-bass neck is wider giving you more accuracy when playing aggressively. (the wider neck might not be for everyone though)
and the mark hoppus has so much sustain it's incredible.
The pick up design may guide your bass to the mid ranges but don't forget with the simplest 3-EQ knobs on your amp you can make it as thick or thin as you want!
I have owned this bass now for two years and have played for a total of eight years, and this is the best bass I've played. Don't let the single knob fool you, the tone on this bass is perfect for any kind of genre. Whether you're playing along to green day and blink 182, to pink Floyd and the Beatles, or play in your high school jazz band, this bass can do it all! It has some screaming highs and deep lows that can go with anything. Throw in a palm mute and it's got the classic p-bass thud. The only downside is that it does ding very easily, a lesson I've learned many times. This may be a bass that a beginner can pick up and play but there is no way it's limited to novices. This is Fender's most overlooked and underrated bass, all the more reason why it one of the greats.

it's a really simple bass with few control features and a simple pickup configuration. anyone that ever played a stringed instrument could play this bass and feel instantly comfortable. it's a really accessible instrument to starters and even pros. has a very definite and even tone and volume for each string, it sits just in the middle of the street from fat to metallic sound, eating a sandwich. comfortable in shape and sound. easily digestible in every way basically.
