Pawn Shop Super-Sonic™

Modelo : 0143800

I remember the original Squier Vista series Super-sonics and falling in love with the quirky looks and the sparkly finishes. I played a white one for a little while and my initial thoughts at the time were that I would probably rewire it to have a single volume and a tone control. I loved the playability and enjoyed how spritely my fingers felt on the shorter 24 inch scale.
I sat down in a local music shop to try this latest Fender version with the same joy at the design of this instrument. I also thought that I would have the same reservations about the 2 volume controls. Now, you have to consider that about 12 years has past since I tried the originals, and my musical 'ear' has developed (whether for the better is not for me to say!). I was plugged in to a Pro Junior, and so as not to upset the entire shop the volume was set to about 2. Of course, I was initially flummoxed by the warmer tones coming from the guitar when I had the pickup selector in the down position, until I remembered that the switched was wired back to front! Lovely flutey tones from the neck pickup, and ideal for Gilmour clean melodies with the volume backed off just a little. Switch to the bridge pickup where i expected the lack of a tone control to be a problem and all I found was a full-bodied tone with a nice bit of bite, especially when digging in a little. I play in a band that covers quite a wide range of tunes, so I need some flexibility in my guitars. Setting the pickup selector to the mid position and tweaking the volumes to taste kept me more than amused! In fact instead of worrying about whether I'd need a tone control, my thoughts started to wonder whether I would really need the pickup selector, and just select my tones using the volume controls!
I have a large family and therefore my guitar related purchases have to be seriously considered, and then saved up for. The sparkly, versatile little tone machine has just jumped to the top of my shopping list!
