Pawn Shop Series guitars are inspired by the more eccentric Fender® creations of the mid-'60s to mid-'70s, which sometimes found their way to the outside world and into the more esoteric pages of Fender history. Crafted for thoroughly modern sound and quality, they present a creative alchemy of diverse Fender elements. New for 2012, the Pawn Shop Series introduces an unconventional new assortment of "guitars that never were but should have been."
The Pawn Shop Offset Special guitar is one of Fender's most offbeat designs ever. Features include a semi-hollow double-cutaway body with an f-hole and sleek offset waist, a phenomenal-sounding pair of large JZHB humbucking pickups with three-way toggle switching and an Adjusto-Matic™ bridge with vintage-style floating tremolo tailpiece. This is a guitar from the past and the future.

Finally, Fender has released the kind of guitar I've always wanted... well, sort of. All maple neck, semi-hollow body, Jazzmaster pickups and vibrato, unique minimalistic styling; It should be an indie rocker's dream come true.
However, the stock electronics are useless. I was so excited to receive this guitar as a Christmas present and started playing it, then immediately was disappointed when I plugged it in. The JZHB's, stacked humbuckers with metal slug pole pieces, are in stark contrast to a real Jazzmaster pickup, a wide single coil with alnico magnet pole pieces. The output is far too high (neck pickup measures about 15k ohms, bridge pickup measures a ridiculous 30k ohms). It distorts my vintage tube amp at very low gain without providing any brightness. As usual, I also need to replace the tone capacitor with a value that doesn't sap all of the treble at a small turn of the dial. It amazes me how Fender can make such brilliant products while totally ignoring simple, but major aspects, Musicians don't want to buy a guitar for over $700 when they have to replace the electronics as soon as they get it, especially when they can find Squiers with good playability and better sounding pickups for less than half the price.
Who would have thought I would like this guitar so much. The blend of the JZHB Humbuckers with the Bridge - Vintage Style "Floating" Tremolo and the Tremolo Locking Button is a killer combo. Together with the semi - hollow unique shape and an F - hole to boot!
Unique look, Great sound!
I am running it through an American Made Fender Blues Jr. 1998. Wow, sounds great clean and dirty.
