The Coronado guitar is back, with greater sound, build and beauty than ever for the guitarist who appreciates a different guitar with a special history. In the mid-to-late 1960s, the Coronado family was Fender’s first foray into the hollow-body electric guitar world. Now the Coronado name and style returns to Fender as an utterly cool new guitar in the Modern Player family, with stunning looks, tone and features.
The Fender Coronado guitar’s thin semi-hollow maple body has an alder center-block and bound top and back, with stylish bound f holes. Its “C”-shaped maple neck has a 9.5”-radius white-bound rosewood fingerboard with 21 medium jumbo frets and elegant white pearloid block inlays. Other distinctive features include dual Fideli’Tron™ humbucking pickups with three-way toggle switching, three-ply black pickguard, four skirted “amp”-style control knobs (volume and tone for each pickup) and an Adjusto-Matic™ bridge with floating “F” trapeze tailpiece. Available in gorgeous 3-Color Sunburst, Black, Candy Apple Red and Black Cherry Burst gloss finishes.

Recently purchased. Neck is perfect, good frets, no problems. Pickups are very nice. Robust clean with a very familiar 3-tone Fender sound even with these pickups. Plenty of warm grit when driven as well. I had to adjust the intonation right away, as one might with any new guitar. Fortunately, the bridge is accurately located so the intonation is now spot on, with no problems there either. The only real issue I ran into was having to file the nut a bit as the strings were too high at the first fret. That said, the guitar was still very playable out of the box. *Conclusion - considering all the usual fine tuning any new guitar might require, this model seems well built and very agreeable. I only wish Fender would have sprung for matching headstock and optional tremolo.

I own four of the original Fender Coronado II Guitars. Antigua, Red, Sunburst and Wildwood. I played the Antigua for most of the 7 years that I had a country/country rock band. I like the feel and playability very much. I found the tone range to be useable for most types of music. Whenever anyone sat in with my band they always asked if they could play the Antigua, and I would play my backup, a Fender Jazzmaster. I was lucky enough to be able to purchase the others along the way, and I currently play the Wildwood at Open mikes & Jam sessions. I still have a list of people that want to buy any of them.. I'll be trying one of the Reissues out, and I'll probably add one to my collection.

I have owned the original six string Fender Coronado II since 1967. Fit and finish is impeccable. It has the original Victoria hard case and all documents. I just had a set up done on it and it is absolutely gorgeous! It has always played and sounded wonderful. The neck is smooth and fast. The hollow sound is so unique and has continued to mellow over the years. I have only played it with tube driven amps for some of the most bluesy, rhythm and lead parts you've ever heard. I also have an American Stratocaster and Fender acoustic among other various Martin's and Yamaha's.
If the reissue is anything like the original, I'm buying another!

I had the chance to play that guitar at my local guitar shop. I fell in love with her immediately. The tone is sweet and at the same time crunchy. It can pull some pretty serious funky sounds without making the tone sound hard. Although people usually compare her with a Gisbon ES 335 I would argue that its sound is more common to a Gretch White Falcon combined with Fender Stratocaster. For those who are not familiar with Gretch instruments, that means nice warm tones with crunchy vibes. The design is just an eye delight, even if you don't play it you just want to look at it. I have the pleasure to own a good amount of Fender guitars but the Coronado is just wonderful. Easy to play and also pretty fast. Also, the price seems about right. I am well aware of how expensive hollow bodied guitars cost to built so I really believe that the price is fair.
