One of the most powerful and versatile bass amps Fender has ever created, the Super Bassman is a stadium-level 300-watt tube head designed for the biggest shows and the largest stages, with enormous Fender bass sound and sparkling vintage Fender looks. Perfect for stage and studio alike, its dual-channel design uses modern technology to maximize classic technology, with classic Fender '60s "blackface" styling and a wealth of innovative features on the front and rear panels.
Features include a tube preamp (two 12AX7s) and power amp (one 12AX7, one 12AT7, six 6550s); Vintage channel that delivers the full, warm sound of a classic Fender passive tone stack; Overdrive channel that delivers the aggressive and responsive sound of a modern active tone stack (choose between channels with included footswitch); rear-panel Fender Automatic Bias system that constantly monitors and re-biases tubes for perfect performance and alerts you when service is required; Speaker Output switch that can be set to “Mute” to turn speaker off and record silently using preamp tone from the XLR output; Impedance switch (8, 4 or 2 ohms) and master volume control with push/pull mute.

I was looking for a new all tube head. I've played all tube amps all my gigging life — since 1977- & I've owned SVT's, Bassman 300PRO, Mesa, Ashdown-etc, MANY tube amps. Was looking at the Ampeg SVT-VR & then a few people on Talkbass.com recommended this FENDER SUPER BASSMAN. I respected these particular TB forum members' views as I knew they'd owned MANY all tube amps & knew about the tone & power of 300w tube amps. When these guys put the Super Bassman on my lookout I asked them if it sounded as good as the SVT-VR as I knew that amp loved its warm lush tone.
All these people said it sounded at LEAST as good + it had the overdrive channel & the ability to blend it with the clean tone. I'm SO glad I did go for this amp.
It's SO LUSH sounding. SO punchy. SO powerful & sounds fantastic at ANY level.
I don't play stadiums, I'm just a weekend warrior- weddings, corporate functions, pubs etc & this amp just DOES IT ALL SO WELL. Being able to switch between clean & drive - and SUCH a GREAT drive channel- is SO GOOD I now leave my OD pedals at home. The drive channel can of course be set to a clean tone, enabling you the VINTAGE channel AND drive channel to be differing shades of a clean tone.
I run it mostly thru a sealed 412 cab & it's just SO sweet on the vintage channel. Having the 8/4/2 ohms select is SO handy too. I can use it with a 1x15& or even a single 12 and sometimes at small rehearsals.
The D.I. is excellent too- with its pre/post, ground lift AND with a level control—something most amps don't have but is VERY handy.
I seriously LOVE this amp!! It's powerful enough for ANY situation, sounds fantastic at ALL levels, is versatile enough for me & my varying styles I play- classic rock to pop to jazz to country, & it sounds phenomenal it them all.
I really do think it's the BEST all tube amp ever made!! & I'm a serious SVT fan. But this just adds that versatility & extra channel & 8 ohm select & less weight & tube bias &.... etc etc..
