I've been a broke, struggling, pawn shop regular musician for the past 15 years. I have worked in music stores for about 7 years. I have bought, pawned, and sold probably 35 guitars (mostly Fender) since I was a teenager. For years there seemed to be such a huge gap in quality between the Squier lineup and the MIM Fender guitars. Needing another electric rig I bought this one because it had excellent ratings and again I'm broke! This guitar bridges the gap in my opinion! The first thing I noticed was how solid the body was. I think the first run of this series they were using Pine, in which I'm glad they switched to Alder! The neck is nice and fast, stays in tune, and the coil split is icing on the cake. The humbucker kinda blows, but for $399.99 MAP it's a solid FENDER guitar, even if it's made in China. Kudos Fender, Kudos!!

I started to learn to play six months ago, and after a couple of months I knew the bug had bitten me and that I wanted to get a little more serious with it. The "Strat" was a no brainer and having no real idea of all the different kinds, thought this would make a great entry level purchase. Boy, was I right!
I fell in love instantly, and there has been no turning back. Plays beautifully, looks great, feels quality and amazing value for money. A short while ago, I played a friend's American Standard and beautiful though it was I struggled to see the enormous discrepancy in price between mine and his. Now, don't get me wrong - I will own an American Standard one day (just to be able to say I have one!) but my Modern Player will be with me always. I'll never sell, or part exchange it - my first real guitar.

I've been playing music since 1963, guitar since 1969 or so. My wife bought the Modern Player's Strat for my 59th birthday in Silver-burst.....I am a collector and still play out on occasion. I own over 100 guitars at the moment with about 25 or so being Strats of various configurations and time periods. I hadn't considered buying one of these for myself but since it was a present I wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. I've owned so many guitars I can evaluate one very quickly. First thing I noticed was the Fender brand on the head-stock with the nice spaghetti style logo. The amber tint on the neck is a bit much but still nice. Weight was good, around 7 1/2 lbs for this example. Other things I check right away:
- Neck relief was spot on
- Intonation was good
- Fret work very well done
- Vintage style tuners very nice
- Bridge decent quality, looks like a zinc block but it's full size and works well with the tremolo arm attached.
- Body and neck finished well
- Nut cut perfectly, very rare on any new guitar
- Everything is well aligned, pick-guard straight, strings aligned perfectly along the neck
The factory setup was impressive, it was within Fender specs and although I did a few minor adjustments I could have played out with it straight from the box. The pickups are alnico and have the classic vintage Strat sound. The humbucker was a bit weak when split so I added a 2.2K resistor inline with the coil-split to retain a bit of the split coil, an 89 cent mod, but I really like the effect.
I could carry on forever about Strats but in short this is a very impressive guitar. Since it was a present I was even more impressed when I looked up the selling price (don't tell my wife!) Fender has really stepped up to the plate in recent years, it is incredible what your money will get you in regards to Fender products. If you are a younger person reading this you have no idea how lucky you are today!

It's a fantastic guitar, really holds particularly mystical sound of Fender that everyone expects from Fender guitar. The finish is amazing! the fingerboard is very comfortable to be as slim and the jumbo frets make it very easy to tap.
It's true that sometimes you have to compensate with the amplifier gain, and the humbucker of the bottom hasn't the tone that I expect, seems to lose power, but you also can use the push/pull rear coil selector switch on tone control 2 to convert the humbucker to a simple one to try a lot of possibilities in order to reach your own sound.

I have this Fender since last Saturday, I've played it everyday, it's a great guitar. You can play with it blues, rock and metal, this guitar sounds really good at this three styles. I have a Fender Mustang (v2) I (amplifier) and with this fantastic sound great.
If you are beggining to play the guitar and if you want a good instrument, buy a Fender guitar.
I like this guitar's color, olympic white. The push/ pull in tone 2 it's great, I discovered it today. The humbucker for distorsion it's fantastic.
Definetily, I recommend you this guitar.

A new invention by Fender that is truly unique. It has managed to combine all the originating Fender features with a more modern sound that is more aggressive. my teacher is very happy with its unique versatility and a very warm sound and full-bodied and adaptable to any kind of music, not to mention the design is an excellent choice from all points of view. If we consider the price then we can be amazed, it sounds like a tool to be much more expensive. Both me and my teacher were affected.
THIS FENDER STRATOCASTER is BEAUTIFUL

I've had this guitar for about a week and a half now and I am very satisfied. For it being the cheapest Fender strat so far it definitely earns its name. I have a Squier Strat which was my first guitar and it wasn't one of the better ones either. The modern player HSS strat is a huge upgrade. Stays in tune, easy to play on, looks fantastic, and the humbucker bridge pickup is easily one of my favorite features. Good job Fender

I have owned this guitar for 6 months. I thought it was a good guitar, but when I received it from the store I was really impressed! What a great guitar, good tone, it's a really comfortable guitar to play with. I really recommend it. The humbucker pickup sound amazing. I love the neck single to play funky music :)

This guitar is great! I own it in Olympic white and I love it. Gigged world wide with it and it held its own with my PRS, no easy feat!
The H/S/S with coil tap config is useful, but the guitar loses volume when coil tap is engaged which is not a massive problem if you use volume pedals, but if not I wouldn't advise switching to it for an important guitar part!
The humbucker is beefy sounding and I would only swap it out for a duncan of some sort. the single coils are fine. Not as great as other budget series (ie classic player) but if you are after true single coil sound you will always need to spend more than the cost of this guitar!
I would recommend sticking texas specials or some duncan single coils in this guitar and you will have an unbeatable instrument for a great price.
The neck is very flat allowing for easy shredding, some players may prefer a beefier neck.
Tuning holds well and there where no sharp frets or pieces on the bridge.
Recommend this guitar whole heartedly to any rock player.

I own so many Fender guitars, but this one is on my top five. The Modern Player Strat has its own tone characteristics, vibe and w/amazing action right out of the box. Its THE guitar that you reach for that extra "meat" in the bridge position, that a strat can't deliver... The Modern Player Stratocaster is a very simple and yet versatile guitar without too many bells and whistles. Again, its a keeper and stock- no modifications needed.

Hands down, THE GREATEST GUITAR I’VE EVER OWNED. I’ve got SIX other electrics with names you’d easily recognize. THEY ARE ALL GATHERING DUST. I absolutely fell in love with this guitar the moment I picked one up. I wound-up ordering the one I own online and was never disappointed. RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, I experienced the most accurate intonation and most incredibly fluid setup I could ever have imagined. I always wanted an American Stratocaster, but when I played a few side by side against my Silverburst Modern Player Strat my avarice instantly disappeared. I’ve seen other reviews that say it is as good as a $2,000.00 instrument. I would challenge anyone to find a $2,000.00 instrument with the incredible feel this guitar has. Playing it is absolutely effortless. AND THE SOUND! Every pentatonic scale sounds like a chorus of angels. Every power chord sounds like a symphony. I was so impressed, I just added another Modern Player – the Thinline Tele deluxe to my arsenal. That baby went right from the box to the studio. I didn’t even change the strings!!! The Modern Player series represents the most incredible value in musical instruments I have seen in my nearly 50 years on this little planet. I named mine “Charlene” in tribute to Private Gomer Pyle (Full Metal Jacket) as there are mine like it, but this one is MINE. If you are still reading this, get off your rear and go get one!
