Grammy award winner John Mayer teamed with Fender to create his must-have signature instrument. The John Mayer Stratocaster® guitar features an alder body, satin urethane-finished maple neck with a slightly larger "C"-shape, 9.5"-radius African rosewood fingerboard with Dunlop® 6105 frets, and buffed headstock with vintage-style '50s decal and string tree placed slightly farther from the nut. Other features include three "Big Dipper" single-coil pickups with special scooped mid-range voicing wound to Mayer's specs, American vintage synchronized tremolo with five springs and uninstalled back plate (included in case), and Fender vintage-style tuners. Hardshell case included.

Since I bought the Mayer strat 2 years ago I have barely picked up my '68 SG. I have played strats over the years and finally decided to buy one. I spent all day playing strats of all types with price points of $1,000 and up at Guitar Center. After going through many guitars none seemed to be exactly what I wanted until the Mayer. Incredible action, superb tone, great pickups. I knew in first couple minutes this was it even though I barely knew who Mayer is (do now.) Anyway, Mayer and Fender designed a great guitar to play my favorites Hendrix, Clapton and Gilmour.

The dynamic range of the pickups is incredible, they have that beautifully clear sound characteristic of John's songs done on the electric guitar. By sound alone, this guitar has an imitative personality to the strat that he based this model off of. The neck shape, big frets and rosewood fingerboard add to the incredible experience it is to play this instrument.

The reason why I found myself buying this guitar is because it is quite simply the best Stratocaster I've ever come across. As simple as that.
A couple of years ago I stepped into a huge guitar dealer in Northern Italy where I live, just to "take a look" around. After many years of playing and trying guitars I was not 100% excited, I had in my mind to buy "the guitar" once and for all but I was going to have it only if it's well worth it, no hurry. It had to be a Strat for sure and I absolutely wanted a maple neck, possibly loaded with locking tuners and two-fulcrum non-vintage tremolo and whatever. The guy at the shop, who already knew me and understood the tone and feel I was searching for, came to me with this axe and told me: forget about the other guitars and try this beauty, trust me; I plugged it straight into a Marshall and, no kiddin', after the first few strums I was completely done!!
Now, I always say that guitars and instruments in general are like women and also wine or anything that has to do with our intimate emotions; it's personal, it's a special alchemy; no rules; I can't deny I still have some sort of fetish for all those brands that meant something to me in this life but I decided to stop valuating guitars or instruments based on the brand, the features or anything; all you have to do is to go into a shop, grab the instrument and feel it.
I could barely remember who on earth this John Mayer was (I later realized what I was missing) so it's certainly not for the signature that I bought this guitar. Anyway, I finally found "the guitar" for my life and no maple neck, no locking tuners and no 2 fulcrum bridge, It's all about love. This is it.

I've been looking at this guitar for years now, finally picked it up, and i'll never look back. From the moment of handling the neck to the moment you plug it in, this guitar speaks volumes. I own other Fender strats and have played my fair share at stores / jam sessions and i dont think i've come across a guitar that sounds more beautiful, the big dipper pick ups are really something else.

I bought a new John Mayer Strat today from Dave's Guitar Shop in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. The limited production run model is Gold with a Racing Stripe with John's personalized unique gig bag. I never thought I would buy an Artist series guitar. The John Mayer Strat was pure heaven from the moment I picked it up. I hadn't even plugged in in yet! The thick neck profile emulated my original 1960's Strat refretted similar to the John Mayer model. Everything just sang! I have been a guitarist since 1966 and never buy on impulse, until now! I'm thrilled with my new instrument that pays tribute to an incredible talent like John Mayer.

I can't put into words how much I love this guitar! It is very versatile right out of the box. I have my .010 strings at about 8/64 of the 17th fret and wow! I never thought I would play with this type of action, but I love it! The pickups are a lot like the Texas specials but much cleaner, and that thick neck is just right. The smooth feel of the neck and the tone of the fretboard with the chunky C is incredible! Perfect guitar for anyone. You can play it soft amp slow or fast and heavy, it talks to you. If you have wanted one but you aren't sure about this model, look no further, this Strat absolutely will not let you down! Perfect for a beginner and excellent for a pro! Fender and Mayer made this Stratocaster a solid piece of musical art! In one word: awesome!

I have the luck to own one of this, 2005 series. First impression, great playability and tone. The big dipper pickups really make a difference, specially if you're looking for that JM bell like tone. But don't be wrong, it is versatile enough to give you enough kinds of tones and sounds. I will keep this one for sure.
Just one advice, whatever guitar you want to buy, please play it and try it first, it's important that you feel comfortable with the instrument.

I bought this guitar in 2008 and it's one of my favourites!
The tone and the feel of the neck, with narrow and quite high frets is great.
