Sleeper gem

Blues Alternative Rock Reggae/Ska

I've had this for nearly six months, and it's fantastic. I love the shape, the offset Jaguar body is really comfy to play when sitting. The short-scale neck is also similarly friendly, and really smooth, as the satin finish is perfect. There is a pleasing weight to the whole instrument when standing, and it feels like it will take a serious hammering - like a more compact Telecaster with a very comfy body.

I also like the inclusion of the Strat-style tremolo, which is really stable once you set it up properly. There are plenty of guides on YouTube for this, as it's a common and well-understood mechanism.

The standard electronics are fine - obviously made to a budget, and therefore not the last word in quality, but more than up to the job. The only issue I have is the bridge pickup. Whilst the neck pickup is smooth, warm and beautiful, the bridge pickup manages to be both nasally harsh and muddy at the same time. I've put it through Vox and Blackstar valve amps, and it doesn't improve. If you're a metaller with a HOOGE solid-state stack and a big ol' distortion pedal you might like it, but it doesn't suit me. However, it's a standard humbucker, so there are one or two replacements available. Decisions, decisions!

That said, I love the Jagmaster. Humbuckers, trem and a big 70's headstock? SOLD! This one's a keeper.

The best Squier has to offer !!

I have one for over 10 years now and it remains in many ways my favorite guitar, even though I own the much more expensive Fender KC mustang among others.
In stock trim, it's a very usable guitar, but the excellently finished alder body (yes yes : no basswood like on my SQ VM Jaguar) and the great feeling maple neck (just love the vintage satin lacquer) make it a perfect base for modding ! I replaced the pots with 500K fender USA items, added an extra tone knob, installed extra shielding and most importantly mounted two DiMarzio HB'ers and I can tell you : this thing just rips now !!!! Perfect for blues over garage to alternative and punkrock.
I'll be keeping this one for a long time.

The Jagmaster is a mid-range (price-wise) guitar. It's a guitar that is well worth the money. It has a sweet sound to it and quite a bit of sustain. It's certainly gig and studio worthy, in fact, I plan on doing both with it! I'm in love with the body shape and the feel of the neck. I haven't really found any issues with it, I guess the frets jut out slightly but they don't get in the way of playing and they aren't sharp (which is good). There is also a fret buzz on one note extremely high up the neck but that can easily be fixed. I highly recommend this guitar for anyone who is looking for a cheaper guitar to play on a cheaper guitar that sounds like one that is twice as expensive!

Awesome & cheap Guitar I've played for ages

I was looking for a cheap guitar and I found this Squier sittting in the corner. I didn't really like the shape but i decided to check it out. The guitar sounded bad when I first played, somebody put the humbuckers too high, but the tone sounded pretty good on the right height. The neck wasn't bad, it is short scale, so it was find. The only thing I hate is the chape and that it gets out of tune easy when using tremelo. The sustain isn't bad, lasts about 4-6 seconds, or about 3-4 seconds on 21st fret. The shape won't bloody stand on my stand. Good overall price, probably best for its price range. I'd use it on a gig, it's good enough, but I'd bring a backup though. If you're looking for a good cheap guitar, I'd take this one.

Great value for the price

Semi-Professional Rock

I picked up one of these a few years ago, it plays best with slightly heavier gauge strings (10-48) as it's a short scale guitar. I have only used it for very small shows but its tone is decent for the price. Although real connoisseurs would rather dish out extra money on a "Fender" brand name Jag or Jazzmaster, I tend to believe that with the proper setup, almost any Squier can be turned into a great playing guitar. Some might go the extra mile and swap out pickups but that's a preference thing.
