Let me just say that this bass has GREAT value... For what I payed for it at Guitar Center. The bass needed minimal setup and was playable right out of the store. The tone is ok-not-great, slightly lacking in lows to my ears, but that is probably because the stock pickup is actually from a Stratocaster( there is also a lot of "hum" as a result); replacing the stock strings with Rotosound flatwounds solved the low end problem. This bass for me is not very comfortable, with a slab body, a wider modern fretboard radius, and several of the frets sticking out over the edge; the maple fretboard feels nice( though I prefer rosewood); the Bronco is overall, very body-heavy and thus balances flat( which I don't like).
On durability: about 9 months after 1 got my 1st one, the bridge shifted and the fretboard warped. On my 2nd one, the pickup had to be re-wired after only 3 months( the wire connecting the pickup to the volume pot had snapped).
So overall, this bass is fine for beginners, but if you have enough money to get a better bass, get a better bass.

I wanted a short scale bass, and this just looked cool. At the time, I owned a number of bass guitars, with at least two being +$1,000.00 instruments. I thought that the Bronco would be a great little knock-about bass that I could drag anywhere to practice with. So, it fits the bill with looks and design. Where it came up a bit short was on playability and tone. A good setup took care of the first. The second was a bit more of a chore. I started at the pickup, where I discovered, after removing the white cover, that it was in fact, a cheap Strat copy. *Yes, for the math experts out there, four strings and six pickup poles, which equaled nothing lining up. Well, I am surprised that Fender didn't do this themselves, the cure was so easy. I ordered up a Duncan &"Cool Rails" pickup. While I had this all apart, I decided to upgrade the pots and jack as well, and now this diminutive bass sounds great!
*Note from FENDER moderation team:
The Bronco Bass was modeled after the original Musicmaster Bass which at the time in the early '70s indeed used surplus Strat 6 pole pickups – covered by a solid plastic top.

This guitar comes easy to any beginner or any professional who is looking for a rich tone and sweet, warm, and heavy sound. The guitar has excellent tuning ability and playing ability whether you like it or not. Over all, an amazing guitar!!!!!!!! :-)
Fender has done it yet again!

I bought this bass early this year. it's a 2009 it has a few scuffs on it. i paid $79 for it. All my Fender Basses have rosewood fretboards, I've wanted to get a all maple necked Fender for awhile. The music store restrung it and did a fantastic set up on it. I bought it on the spot, hit a pawn shop and got a 10 gig bag that had a strap inside too. This has a good tone...I play it with the volume and tone up full. This is a one sound bass for me, but I like the sound. The tone knob muddies the tone, but I can get a great sound out of it.
I wanted a short scale Fender to play on a few songs...the cost was about the same as a pair of shoes, So I got a cute little instrument that sounds great and has a very nice neck. I don't know if the music store did anything to it but the fretwork and nut were above average. My only complaint is the tuners are not my favorite, you move them a hair and the note is half a step off. One in tune it stays very well. I may put new tuners on it, but they are working. It's not my main axe so they will probably last the life of the bass. The simple one ply pickguard was done nicely and the bridge is pretty beefy....even with only 2 saddles the intonation was very good. Not perfect but as good as that design will allow. I have seen several kids playing these, one kid was a fantastic player especially at age 11. I told him I was impressed and liked his bass. He said that bass goes everywhere with him.
With a lot of use I could see the tuners wearing out in a year. other than that, this is a nice affordable and good sounding instrument, and the short scale is fun to play

I needed just a small throw-around bass for recording, The sound is really nice for the price. This has been to hell and back with me and it still puts out great sounds. This is an awesome beginner bass.
