Read this review with this in mind: I have certain speakers I know perform to my liking. I immediately put one of my favorite speakers in this amp. I feel that if you're a tone seeking geek like myself, you're going to end up replacing the speaker in almost any amp you buy.
I play professionally as a studio musician and on tour. I've used this amp in both places. On its own, and with an extension cab.
As a head (using an extension cab) live, it beats my vintage drip edge bassman and my Dr. Z Maz 38, and I never fear it's going to break down.
In the studio it stands up to all of my vintage amps. I've never had an engineer or producer complain.

These '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissues just don't sound like the originals, and will not 'age' into sounding like the originals. Mine is 10 years old. They are, like so many reviews and forums have already stated for 10 years on the internet, HARSH sounding. There are so many modifications posted throughout the internet by players working and trying to make this amp sound pleasant. I've played Strats through it, LP's through it, PRS's and Gretsch's and anything else I could find. It just doesn't have the sound that keeps you playing and playing, skipping food and women because you just can't stop playing through it. I wanted to like it. I changed speakers several times, Webers, Tone Tubby, Celestion, Eminence etc. I upgraded power tubes and pre amp tubes, Tung Sols, JJ's, RCA's. It helped but only marginally. I understand people will disagree with me. Oh well, this is America. I wanted to like it, I really did. Recently I bought a Custom '68 Princeton Reverb, and Fender seems to have done a better job with that series lately. I rated this amp low in all categories, because if the tone/sound isn't there, how can any of the other categories be there either?

What more could possibly be said about the Deluxe Reverb, or the whole Historic Deluxe line. They are Iconic, One of the 4 or 5 pieces of equiptment most responsible for defining the sound of American Popular music in its Greatest days. These 65' Reissue Deluxe Reverbs are a very well thought out compromise with legendary design and traditional circuit architecture, and the low cost low value, high - volume production principle of modern manufacturing. If only other companies could find the balance the Fender has These amps deliver an authentic sounding and looking, Made in the USA amp that are within reach of just about anyone. I cant wait to try the new 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb, but if you had to have just one amplifier only, I think it would have to be a Blackface Deluxe Reverb (although the Blackface Princeton Reverb is almost even in the running)
I bought this amp about two months ago it is my first tube amp and i think i have made the right choice. The reverb is great, and the vibrato makes me want to play Linchy stuff (David Lynch). Maybe it doesn't have such a full tone like the Twin, or the Roland Jazz Chorus but it is far more practical. Tried it with fenders, tried it with gibsons, sounds good with everything (makes cheap guitars sound a lot better too). Since i rarely use distortion, the fact that this amp was built for more of a clean sound is a perfect thing for me. The best thing about it out of all, that it makes me want to spend more time on my instrument, just practicing, not gigging or rehearsing with a band.

I used to own an original early version 1966 Deluxe Reverb. After I got the DRRI, I sold the original. Not because it sounded better, but because I wanted something I could take out with no worries of harming a vintage amp. I'll leave that to someone that just has to go vintage. The DRRI is very close to the original although has a bit more clean headroom before it starts to sing. The original has a bit more complex sound but once the drummer kicks in it doesn't really matter. The only thing I did to mine was replace the tubes with all JJ's. They can handle 14 watts each on the power tubes so I was able to bias the amp to get close to a 28 watt output with even a little more headroom. There's plenty of power anywhere I play. I have played outdoors at smaller shows without micing and had plenty of volume. Note, I don't play with extremely loud drummers, we don't do heavy music so don't need extreme volume. But, for the music we play, mainly blues, jazz, country and classic rock, the amp has no problem keeping up. A side benefit is that it sounds good at lower volumes and works great with my pedals. It's a great value too, especially if you find a slightly used one. I got mine for the price you would pay for a new Blues Jr (got one of those too). My advice is to go to your local guitar barn and try one.
The DRRI is perfect for what it's supposed to be, a simple and reliable amp at a reasonable price. Yes, there are cheaper amps that have all sorts of onboard effects and whatnot, and there are more expensive amps that appeal to the tone snobs and are out of the price range of most hobbyists like me, but if you're looking for a versatile amp that won't break the bank, the DRRI fits the bill perfectly. Great clean tones right out of the box, a solid built-in reverb, and it takes pedals really well, especially considering that it doesn't have an effects loop. I play a Gibson Les Paul Traditional with a Fulltone OCD for distortion, and to me there is no better setup classic rock, hard country, or Bonnamassa-style blues. I've played good guitars through cheap, below average amps for so long, I'd forgotten what a good amp can do for your tone. You can't go wrong with the DRRI.

I went into a local guitar store with my mind set on a new Gretsch hollow body guitar. I had played a friend’s Gretsch a few times already so I knew which guitar I wanted and planned on an in and out transaction. The guitar manager recommended me to plug it in to one of the floor amps just to make sure. I plugged into the ’65 Deluxe Reverb and 30 minutes later I walked out the door with a new amp also.
I couldn’t be happier. This was my first full tube amp. The tone is amazing at both low and high settings. The tube driven reverb and vibrato couldn’t be better.
This amp is an industry standard and it reinforces my satisfaction of this purchase every time I see the same amp being used on the professional stage by professional musicians of every genre from rock and roll, blues, and country.

The 2000 Deluxe Reverb Amp w/ Eminence Speaker is an excellent amplifier. I use it with a 2004 Acoustasonic Junior w/ DSP, and a 1987 Concert w/ 12" Eminence Speaker. I use these Fender amplifiers with a 2012 Gretsch G5120 Electromatic Orange w/ Deluxe Case, a 1993 Telecaster Custom Reissue Sunburst w/ Deluxe Tweed Case, a 1978 Stratocaster Sunburst, and a 1984 Guild D-17M Natural. And, I use Fender 351 Extra Heavy Shell Picks and the AX-12 Chromatic Auto Tuner.
All of my Fender Family instruments are out of production, and many have been highly customized by me or a Fender-Amp-Tech. A Fender Guitar is where I started in Granada Hills, CA in 1966 with a 1965 Jaguar Olympic White. I can't say that that guitar made me famous or even popular, but to this day some still talk of me and the 1965 Olympic White Jaguar. So good enough.

Tone, tone, tone. If the room can handle it, play it at about 7 for sweet, clean or subtle, warm drive depending on guitar settings and attack. I run an OD pedal when playing at lower volumes and the amp handles it well. Many compliments on the tone, with and without the pedal.
Add an extension cab for some crazy big sound.

this amp is great for just about any style. it has a great warm sound. it can be clear as day, or if you turn it up it's got a nice natural overdrive.
the reverb and vibrato add a great dimension.
some people are down on the lack of a true overdrive/distortion, but spend a few extra bucks on a nice pedal and get this great amp!

When I first played one I thought wow this is the clean sweet tone I am looking for, and from that moment I had to have one.
Well I got one and I'm in reverb heaven. Sweet sounding verb and a nice vibrato. I only use channel two and the amp does what I need it to, to sound great clean. Oh, it's sweet pushed dirty as well.
I've owned my DRRI now for over 5 years and little tweaking some nice NOS tubes and a speaker swap, and it's perfect. Don't get me wrong the original speaker was nice but I just wanted a bit more crisper cleaner sound with a tighter low end, and hey what guitarist doesn't tweak his gear?
Everyone says these amps can be a bit bright, but you've just got to learn to use the tone knobs on the amp and your guitar. Works great with a tele and a strat, even those les paul thingy's.
For shimmering clean and reverbalicious sound the DRRI is the amp

Stop contemplating it, and just buy it. This is THE Fender sound. You want that chimey clean bell like tone that only a Fender amp can produce, then you must buy the amp that makes that sound. You want crunch and dirt? Use a pedal or look into getting a Bassman or a Champ. This thing is clean all the way up and takes pedals like a pro. If you're used to solid state amps, you'll have to tweak your pedals a bit for the difference in sound, but you'll be happy to do it. This is the first amp I've ever enjoyed just plugging a guitar straight into it.

This amp has the best clean tone of any I've ever had or played. The reverb is fabulous for blues and anything else you'd like to drench. The tremolo will make you want to play surf. You can get a little distortion by cranking the volume, but not a lot. This is not a problem because it can wail and scream with pedals. The Deluxe Reverb (with the the Twin Reverb and Super Reverb) is hands down the most versatile amp among the major brands. It sounds just great. At 22 watts, it is surprisingly loud. Setting the volume knob at 3 may drive you out of a room at home and drove my ex crazy. It is easily loud enough for gigs at small venues. I would have give this five stars, but my amp was made shortly after they started making them in China when there may have been a reliability problem. The reverb tank acted up early, appeared to be ok, but then failed just out of warranty. It is now in the shop again for the first time in about 10 years. Not bad and it may be sometthing simple like a tube problem. It has been used a lot more than any of my other amps including Vox, Marshall, and Mesa Boogie. Great amp.

I've owned my 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue for about 5 years now and it's been a great all around amp. The clean tones are as sweet as you can get. With 22 watts you have plenty of volume. You can also get a smooth overdrive tone if you crank things up. Very surprising big bottom end as well. With the reverb and tremolo you can play anything from classic rock, surf, country, blues or jazz with the 65 Deluxe Reverb. I've had the opportunity to try out vintage units for the 60's and 70's and the reissue compares very favorably.

I bought this amp about 8 months ago, my first tube amp. I had initially thought I would use a smaller modeling amp at home, but this has become my only amp for home or band use. It is WAY more than loud enough to keep up with a drummer, and the louder you turn it up the better it sounds. At home, I rarely turn this up beyond '2'. With a band and drummer indoors - typically 4-5 on volume is all that's needed. In my home I use a tube screamer clone for dirt at lower volumes, but really love the warm, clean sounds out of this amp. I play mainly classic rock and some blues, and for me this amp nails the tone I am after. It sounds good with my Strat, but I was really surprised by how well it sounds with an LP style guitar. I could be happy plugged straight into this amp as well with no other effects than a TS. Build quality is fantastic, no reliability problems, classic looks and design. If it got stolen I'd just buy another one.

Since the purchase of my first 65 deluxe reverb I fell in love. The tone stands out solid and direct in the small to medium blues venues that our band plays in. I did however notice that a little more bottom end would make it sound must bolder and after working with a fender tech via email we came to the conclusion to add a closed back single 12" Hot rod extension cabinet. Wow this has added so much bottom that this Amp can now hold up to a even bigger house without adding a mic. I have since purchased the limited edition wine red 65 with the upgrades they have added and the tweed front this Amp stands out and amazingly sounds exactly the same as my 17 year old 65. Now I know why I has been the most recorded amp in history! Nice product ...

This is my main amp and I use it to it cover a variety of styles, from country to classic rock, in different bands. It nails the classic Fender clean, and gets even better as you turn it up to the sweet spot where there's just a hint of break-up. Takes pedals extremely well too, which is a major plus. The speaker needs a bit of time to bed in - it can sound a little harsh "out of the box" but before you do a speaker swap, give it a few hours of cranking it up and the tone really mellows. It seems pretty robust (something that I can't say about the original Blackfaces I've used in the past) and has served me well in 100s of gigs. The volume knob on Channel 2 has always been a bit scratchy, I'll get it looked at one day but it's not a biggie.
It's very close to the sound of an original Blackface - not exactly the same, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's worse. If you want classic Fender clean, or bluesy dirt, you can't really go wrong. It's also very poky - no need to worry about cutting through, I've used this in everything from small halls to theatres (mic-ed) and with a very loud drummer. It is very loud for its size. Replaced my Twin with this - nice to be able to carry your amp in one hand!
