Bought a MIM Jazz Bass recently. Great bass! Great tone. Very solid feel. This is a bucket list purchase for me and so far it has not disappointed. I love this bass and hope to play it for many years to come.

A Bass for the notsorichbutnotsopoor

A Fender jazz bass. Whether it's made in America, Mexico, or Japan, it'll never fail you. Mine was a used 2001 jazz bass; took off the rosewood neck and replaced it with a maple one from Fender (good job, guys). Plays like a beauty. Installed a Badass II bridge but don't know whether I'll keep it or not.

Issues: pickups seem to have been bolted solid into the body; I can't adjust their heights which makes it irritating to set up the bass. Maybe it's the body wood or the pickups themselves? Bridge saddles was very loose and unusually long adjustment screws which kinda is a pain to intonate and set properly.

Anyways, it plays and feels like a Fender jazz bass. You will get that classic jazz bass tone; it'll never cease to please. Make a few upgrades here and there and it'll be YOUR dream bass, all for less than $1000.

I'm planning to get the Custom Shop 60s pickups to make it really roar like a jazz bass and maybe get a new colour body because I dislike the 3-tone sunburst bodies. Not my thing.

My one and only

This bass is the only Fender product that I currently own, but I have played on all of their other basses and I have to say that even though it is made in Mexico, it is platinum. The build is solid, it is a little heavy and can be a burden for your shoulder but after about a month, you get used to it. The tone quality is beyond perfect, the features are excellent, the design is sleek and the neck and fretboard are super playable. I play all types of music and this bass excels in all of them. Overall, amazing product.

I use to be semi pro about 28 years ago. Last year I sold my J.D Mark King Supernatural which was a custom job. Prior to buying that bass in the 80's I owned a 1968 Fender Precision Bass. To this day I regret trading it in to Mark King of Level 42 when he worked in FDH Music in London. It was used on sessions for the late Reggae Legend Sugar Minot and for my Dance band Le Famille whose singer Karen Wheeler went on to front Soul to Soul. So I have a little knowledge of basses. So when I found an old video lof one of my bands I am thinking of uploading to You tube I decided I needed to get a new bass. I went to my local Fender Dealer and tried a MIA Jazz Bass and whilst it was a great bass it did not remind me of my old fender in character and playability. I then tried a MiM Standard Precision Bass and it immediately reminded me of my old sunburst. However this time round I decided to order a Jazz Bass MIM. For the money its a great bass and the build quality is fantastic. Tonally it is expansive and offers a range of sounds for my differing styles of play. If I need to get a more dynamic range I'll customise with Fender custom pick-ups. Great value for money and its a Fender so job done. Its a good starting point for me to get back to playing without great expense and it the player that makes a bass not the bass. So job done. The guys that made my bass in Mexico should be proud as this looks and plays MIA's.

I have wanted a Fender Jazz bass since I started playing in 1979. Finally, was able to nab this one for a very nice price. Now, I remember WHY I have always wanted one. This thing is amazing. Great tone and playability. The craftsmanship is awesome. I have yet to find a flaw, and yes, I have looked HARD for any. Good Job Fender. I am sold as to only buying FENDER.

Pickups are a bit quiet. It has to be loud to be any good, but it's pretty good.

I have had my bass for several years now. The only mods done were knobs and a pickguard. This bass has the best feel and tone of any Fender Bass I own. It's a tad heavy, but the neck and fretwork are excellent. I play it in a popular local working band. This bass has served me very well

It's heavy but balanced

This metallic green Standard Jazz of mine is a good deal for the money. I suggest keeping with the standard strings for overall tone that works. I tried more expensive and less expensive strings and different winding and nothing gives a better tone set than the stock strings. The action is sweet on this. This is a heavy beast but it isn't lop sided. It balances well so when you play you tend to forget it's hanging on you. I have had compliments on this one, she looks sweet! Very durable.

I've owned my standard J bass for nearly 4 years, and it works for basically every style of music. The controls are perfect, the stock pickups are actually fantastic, and the neck is ridiculously easy to play. The tuners are insane, I can go for over a week without having to even touch them! Great tone, great feel, and of course great looks make one slick instrument.
