I was not looking for a guitar, as I had just purchased a GE Smith Tele the previous day but my Fender Rep called and said he just got in one of these on a super closeout special and I needed to come look at it.
Not only was it gorgeous. . . I finally found a Fender humbucker that I liked!!
So for less than half of what they sold for when they came out, I took this home and have now gigged with it 3 times and could not be happier.
I love the Select series - especially when you can get them at a realistic price!!
I would not have paid the original asking price for it but they are worth the "going" rate - it's an excellent guitar that I am very proud to own!!

Well I wasn't really in the market for another guitar but there it was and I had to play it.
I like the chunky neck, but the tone of the guitar is what I fell in love with. Even the Fender Humbuckers pretty much retain the Fender sound (just a little fatter). I noticed with the S-1 switch pushed in the tone became darker, fairly close to a Gibson. I also like the S-1 switch on the tone knob. With the double coil pickups, the S-1 makes more sense.
It gives the guitar more tone flexibility.
Check one out!

I got this guitar for my birthday this year. Aside from the fact that it is probably one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever seen, the quality and the sound are just incredible. It is truly a Fender masterpiece which I am certain will become a collectors item. I own another Tele, a Strat and A Fender Lead III. They all have their own particular sound and I love them all, but this instrument is just amazing! I would highly recommend to any serious musician or collector to check this gorgeous instrument out. Each time I have gigged with it, I get a crowd of musicians asking me what I'm playing!
