Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo. Jazzmaster® guitar slung across seminal shoulders. In the hands of both men, the sound of Sonic Youth is the sound of that guitar used as part paintbrush and part cluster bomb. If anybody ought to have a signature Jazzmaster model, it's those two guys.
Done. Fender's Thurston Moore Jazzmaster and the Lee Ranaldo Jazzmaster guitars rock classic Jazzmaster gestalt, youthfully stripped down and hot-rodded right through the roof.

This guitar has the style and appearance of a classic. The simplicity of the single volume knob and a 3-way switch allows you to concentrate more on playing without having to fool around with a multitude of controls. The ergonomics of the body allows for optimal playing comfort. It is a very well-balanced guitar just like a Les Paul is. The headstock and lettering decal look very classy along with the vintage tuners which I prefer because no sharp string end is protruding from the tuning post. The guitar is very practical and will get the job done no matter what style of music you play. It's a very practical instrument. I just wish it had a Floyd Rose tremolo on it so that I could wear my pink spandex pants and jump around the stage with my band The Forces of Freedom featuring Rambo on rhythm guitar whose weapon of choice features a stop tailpiece and ABR-1 bridge on his axe. ;)/
This guitar was set up perfectly from the factory with perfect intonation and action. It has a very simple design-one volume knob and no switches, which I really enjoy. The pickups are amazing. I hope Fender will use them in their more of their higher-end Jazzmasters. I've never heard such clean bell-like tones from any other guitar I've played.

Stripped down to it essentials, the TMJM is the purest, and in my opinion, maybe the best Jazzmaster Fender has ever made. The Duncan antiquities sound wonderful, and I love the neck profile with the jumbo frets.
For those who maybe be wondering, I do also own a much beloved 1964 formerly CAR JM (not a reissue). These new JMs are every bit as good.
Things that I would change: I'd go with a slightly flatter radius- the big frets do a lot to help with making this guitar easy to play, but fretting out can be a problem on the vintage radius neck. I know SY likes to keep the controls simple, but I'll be adding a volume to my guitar soon. And lastly- c'mon guys! Can a brother get another color other than green?
