More about Pawn Shop Super-Sonic™

Players continue to praise the Pawn Shop Series for evoking the more eccentric Fender creations of the mid-'60s to mid-'70s while delivering thoroughly modern sound and quality with a wealth of various Fender elements. New for 2013, the Pawn Shop Series introduces yet another pleasingly unconventional assortment of "guitars that never were but should have been," in which new models take the stage and long-vanished classics return in modern form.

With a few modern touches, the Pawn Shop Super-Sonic™ guitar resurrects an unusual, short-lived and increasingly collectible ancestor of the late 1990s, the Squier® Vista Series Super-Sonic guitar. Very little about the Pawn Shop Super-Sonic isn't highly distinctive—from its diminutive offset "reverse" body (resembling an upside-down Jazzmaster® or Jaguar® guitar) and upside-down headstock to its short scale (24") and dual canted Atomic™ humbucking pickups (only the bridge pickup was canted on the original Squier models). Then there are the controls—neck pickup volume and bridge pickup volume only (no tone control), which are reverse-wired like the Squier original, meaning that the bridge pickup volume is the one closest to the bridge and the neck pickup volume is the one farthest from it.

Other features include a "C"-shaped maple neck with "bullet"-style truss rod, 9.5"-radius rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, three-way toggle pickup switching and dual Jazz Bass control knobs, three-ply parchment pickguard, vintage-style synchronized tremolo bridge, vintage-style tuners and new Super-Sonic four-bolt neck plate.

Revolutionary desigh with a killer tone!

I alwas looked for a Fender guitar with a reverse headstock. When I saw that Fender was bringing out a new version of that old Squier model I soon bought one in dark metal flake from a huge german Music store. The look of the guitar is superb (the grey flake finish, the reverse headstock, the reverse body). The two humbuckers have a strong killer tone. Absolutely a powerful guitar. The only thing I criticize is the circumstance that you won't get a warm tone from the guitar. In terms of the sound the guitar is limited but if you want a guitar with a heavy, strong and powerful tone - the guitar is right for you.

Not to many reviews around for this beauty, had it for around a month now, it's absolutely excellent, the atomic humbuckers really live up to their name and make the guitar perfect for rock or grunge music but also great for twangy clean sounds. The guitar is very playable and easy to pick up. My only issue with this guitar is that I think the pickup switch is a little bit too close to where one's arm would be going, making it easy to accidentally hit. The other issue is one every few hours of playing I'd get the bottom (higher pitched) E string caught behind the pickup but honestly that does not change my very high view of this guitar. It is a very aesthetically pleasing guitar, flashy but not pretentious, at first I thought the flake look was a bit cringe worthy but in fact it is a very nice colour, the upside down look of the guitar is a pretty amazing view. I previously had a Squier vintage modified Jazzmaster which I never wanted to change because of how great the tone was, but after finding this guitar I was blown away by the sound and look of the thing. I highly recommend to anyone planning to play music to the likes of Nirvana or Soundgarden and other Rock or Grunge music. I also recommend buying this guitar with a fuzz pedal for instance Electro Harmonix's PI Big Muff, as the guitar and fuzz pedals work like bread and butter. Honestly buy this guitar, it is what I always imagined an edgy Jaguar to be like. I hope your experiences are as good as mine with this guitar or any other.

Super Super-sonic

I remember the original Squier Vista series Super-sonics and falling in love with the quirky looks and the sparkly finishes. I played a white one for a little while and my initial thoughts at the time were that I would probably rewire it to have a single volume and a tone control. I loved the playability and enjoyed how spritely my fingers felt on the shorter 24 inch scale.
I sat down in a local music shop to try this latest Fender version with the same joy at the design of this instrument. I also thought that I would have the same reservations about the 2 volume controls. Now, you have to consider that about 12 years has past since I tried the originals, and my musical 'ear' has developed (whether for the better is not for me to say!). I was plugged in to a Pro Junior, and so as not to upset the entire shop the volume was set to about 2. Of course, I was initially flummoxed by the warmer tones coming from the guitar when I had the pickup selector in the down position, until I remembered that the switched was wired back to front! Lovely flutey tones from the neck pickup, and ideal for Gilmour clean melodies with the volume backed off just a little. Switch to the bridge pickup where i expected the lack of a tone control to be a problem and all I found was a full-bodied tone with a nice bit of bite, especially when digging in a little. I play in a band that covers quite a wide range of tunes, so I need some flexibility in my guitars. Setting the pickup selector to the mid position and tweaking the volumes to taste kept me more than amused! In fact instead of worrying about whether I'd need a tone control, my thoughts started to wonder whether I would really need the pickup selector, and just select my tones using the volume controls!
I have a large family and therefore my guitar related purchases have to be seriously considered, and then saved up for. The sparkly, versatile little tone machine has just jumped to the top of my shopping list!
