Jimmy Dale, son of the legendary surf guitarist Dick Dale, helped design his own take on the Kingman™, with features including an all-solid mahogany body, dual pickguards, Fishman® preamp with onboard tuner, and 3” body depth for more comfortable playing and less feedback when plugged in.

PLAYABILITY: This is a beautiful guitar spoilED (initially) by poor out-of-the-factory set-up. Hence the 2 rating on 'playability' above. So... playability is now excellent, 5*, but it had to have some work done to bring the intonation to spec., by the retailer's own guitar tech. The intonation was so far off that it was unplayable above the 5th fret. Sad that such a lovely guitar should need that! Really!
Once that was fixed we were away. The all mahogany body is rather special and gives this guitar a really rich acoustic (un-amped) tone but not at the expense upper frequency response. Sustain is impressive. I play a lot of finger-style and it is very responsive to subtle picking, but really can thunder it out when you give it some good strummings! When I put it through my VOX AGA30 it really sings!
I bought it, initially, for the thin-line 3” body. This aids playing to a wonderful extent. You can keep your Jumbos, never been a big bodied fan.
The Fishman amp does the job nicely, the built in tuner is accurate, although I still use my Snark for preference. The neck is, for me, a comfortable width with room for fingers. Not too narrow which, again, tends to suite my playing style. If you play three-finger 'A' shape chords up the neck a-ways, you should be fine.
Finally, it looks really good, and because of the all mahogany body, a little bit different. It feels good, and it represents good value for money. Get that out-of-the-factory intonation right and it would be almost perfect.
