Out of all the basses I own, this is my favorite. I've owned it for three years and it hasn't let me down. Whether its recording or playing to a live audience, the tone and playability of the American Special Precision bass is second to none. Lots of low end, simple but stylish. Its an absolute pleasure to play everytime I take it out of its case. So far its been to Australia, the United States and Japan and I've recorded three records with it with plans for many more in the future.

After playing a candy apple red model at my local guitar shop, for about a year and a half, I finally bought it. The only thing it needed to make it right was a set of flat wounds. Oh, what a sound. It plays smooth, and you cannot beat the price. These things should never hang on a wall that long. They need good homes, and mine found one.

Compared to my other two bass guitars, my new P Bass is like the difference between a $10 bottle of wine and a $50 bottle of wine. The former is good; the latter is exceptional. This American Special has a sunburst finish and the finger rest to play with my thumb like I use to do. It is like the exact same P Bass I bought in 1966 including the chrome plate over the pickups. It was like finding a long lost friend. The tone and quality exceeded my expectations. The only difference between then and now is back then I used a Fender Bassman head with dual 12" speakers. No need for that kind of punch now since I play in a small jazz band.

I own a Fender J-Bass and a Fender P-Bass. With these two beasts I am able to play almost every musical genre. I love so much my Fender P-Bass Special Made In Usa, the perfect tone for Rock, Hard Rock, Funk and so much. Awesome design here and a sound that is &Pure Precision Flavoured," with round edges and that characteristic &mid-low end. I really appreciate Greasebucket Tone Circuit... perfect for soft funky lines, it rolls off high frequencies *without* altering mid-low range.
I would buy this over and over.

This is my first Fender Precision Bass. I play in a metal band that plays in an alternate drop B tuning. This bass just has a certain thump to it that I couldn't get from any other basses or pre-amps. I just got the bass recently and the quality of the paint job and the maple neck is just impeccable. This is also my first guitar that I have owned that is American made. I actually liked this bass over the American Standard series. This is my favorite color combination out of all the ones that I have seen. I look forward to playing my first gig with it in a month. Thank you Fender for making such a great instrument.

First thing you should know, I play metal music and nothing else.
My view of the bassist's role in a metal band is that there is none. No one expects the metal bassist to do anything in particular, other than show up (late) and play (lazily). Sure, they want us to get on top of the root notes of the guitar parts now and again, which is correct from time to time, but by and large, the metal bassist does as he pleases. It's wonderful.
I originally intended to buy a Jazz Bass, but on a fluke, picked up one of these just to try it out. I started laughing as soon as I played it. This bass does whatever you want, with exceptional clarity.
Fellow metal bassists; do not buy those stupid B.C. Rich Atrocities. If you're worth your sand as a bassist, you need a tone that cuts through the mix and a neck that allows you to do it quickly. I can think of nothing better for that task than this bass.

I used to play the Jazz model for years and years until I discovered the P-Bass. The tone is so incredible on this bad boy that it sounds amazing as is. As a producer/engineer, it is always good when you have a quality recording that you don't have to spend hours editing. The P-Bass also fits the style of music I tend to produce: Pop/Rock and Urban. However, this is a bass that can be used to play any style.

I LOVE this bass. I picked it up at GC and it felt like a long lost friend. The quality and workmanship is very nice. I used flat wound strings and it sounds fantastic.
