The American Vintage series introduces an all-new lineup of original-era model year guitars that bring Fender® history and heritage to authentic and exciting new life. With key features and pivotal design elements spanning the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s, new American Vintage series instruments delve deep into Fender's roots—expertly preserving an innovative U.S. guitar-making legacy and vividly demonstrating like never before that Fender not only knows where it's going, but also remembers where it came from.
The American Vintage Series has long presented some of Fender's best selling guitars (their early-'80s introduction, in fact, was one of the first signs that Fender was "back" as the CBS era ended). Today, Fender has boldly cleared the slate to make way for a fresh American Vintage series with new features, new specs and the most meticulous level of vintage accuracy yet. Rather than just replacing the previous models with different ones, we've completely and comprehensively re-imagined the entire vintage-reissue concept—restoring original tooling dies, voicing new pickups, reformulating vintage colors and more—based on actual vintage guitars we tracked down to make sure we had it right. We did the work, and it shows, because there's pure tonal magic in each new American Vintage instrument.
1964 was a monumental year for popular music and a pivotal year for the Telecaster®, too, as seen in the American Vintage '64 Telecaster. The thicker maple necks of the '50s and early '60s now gave way to a more rounded "C"-shaped profile, this time topped with a round-laminated rosewood fingerboard with larger pearl dot inlays. Other vintage-accurate touches include a lightweight alder body (ash on White Blonde model), staggered bridge pickup pole magnets, threaded steel "barrel" bridge saddles, three-ply white pickguard with eight holes, top-hat switch tip, flat-top knurled chrome control knobs and more.

What can I say? I simply love this Tele! The pickups on this thing have the 'perfect' Fender tone qualities I've been looking for, for a long time!
The sound is crystal clear and smoking hot. To me, the '64 represents the best of the pristine tonal qualities of the '52 Vintage Reissue with a hotter edge that fits everything rock, blues, and into a contemporary market. I'm a Fender fan-boy, but this is the guitar I've not been able to find, until now! The rest of the instrument is perfect as well. The 60's style "C" neck gives you something to hold onto without being too much...I have a 7" hand (from wrist to end of middle finger) and this neck fits me with style. Also, I happen to be a fan of the bridge cover...it's nice to let my lazy wrist rest on it from time to time as I play. This is a winner and I wish I could give it more than 5's!

I picked up a Lake Placid Blue version of this out of the box classic. I'll start with the case because this site should show the cases too! I have some cool guitars with ugly cases. The case is light brown vintage looking but new, not relected, with gold hinges and lock snaps. The inside is also gold, very rich looking, very clean. You also get a real leather guitar strap, not that plastic crap. In my opinion this makes any other case I've seen look cheap and tacky. Now the guitar. The guitar comes with a bridge ashtray, very cool! The quality is custom shop without the high cost. The feel is perfect, the neck plays fast and I don't get tired or hand cramps. The body is light and resinates for ever. When I play mine I feel like I can do anything with it. Even unplugged it sounds great. The neck pickup sounds incredible. Sad songs sound more sad. Johnny Cash's "Hurt" forget about it! The bridge plays awesome too. Even Metallica sounds great with the single coil. Out of any guitars I have or have had, this is my hands down favorite! The Vintage series that fender is offering is absolutely incredible. I am a huge supporter of Vintage Series. I own the 52 and saving for the 58 Telecaster. If you haven't tried one you are missing out. I sold 3 Gibson Les Paul Standards that I thought were great so I could get the 52 & 64. The Telecaster has changed the way I played and the amount I play. I can't wait to get home from work and jam out. John 5 has it right!
