I was excited to get this guitar. I actually saved up for three years a bit at a time. When the item arrived the factory set up was really bad. The strings were very high, the nut was too high, and it was wildly out of tune. After taking it to my guitar tech, he shaved the nut down, and on the low E string we had to actually cut the screw in half on the bridge because the string had to be lengthened to make it intonate.
Once the guitar came back, it was wonderfully playable. Yes, the strings seem a little close to the edge of the fretboard, but since I usually never bend out, I rarely come off the fingerboard. I am a Blackmore fan, but I did not get the guitar because of that. I got it for the partial scallop on the neck, and the neck is wonderful. So much easier to play, and it feel very fast. The frets were a little rough, but they were all the correct height and my repair guy didn't think that I needed a fret dressing. In fact, he said the fretwork was really well done. Maybe I got lucky.
They Seymour Duncan quarter pounders were kind of mushy and dark, and really noisy when not run together. They seemed really reminiscent of P-90's. I knew this buying the guitar, so I had budgeted to install two Lace Sensor Gold pickups, which brightened it up considerably and really quieted things down.
Quite frankly, I love this guitar. It takes a little work to get it to where you want it. It will need setup, and in some cases extensive setup. But I really like the two pickup configuration, and it has a very unique sound. It's the best guitar I've ever bought. But again, it wasn't right out of the box.
A hardshell case would have been nice for this money, but I can deal with the gig bag. The only reason this is a 4 instead of 5 was due to the setup issues. Again, out of the box, it was nearly unplayable. If it had been better out of the box, it would be a 5.

I've been a fan of Ritchie's work for a long time, and I've always been hoping one day Fender would rerelease a Signature Model they had made for the Fender Japan Market. That model was almost the same as this new Mexican model. The only difference is that the Japan featured a Basswood body. I got my hands on the first batch of these guitars and I've heard that some people had some problems with the neck. The guitar I got was fine. There are some things with the design of the bridge that may give you some trouble. I've experienced the same problem that I have with my Fender YJM Signature Strat, with the string spacing on the Tremolo. The high E string tends to slide off the fingerboard when you go to do bends or pull offs. This becomes a problem because the string will fall right off the fingerboard. I replaced the Fender Mexican Vintage Tremolo with a Callaham Vintage Style Bridge with a closer string spacing. This solved the problem for me. The Blackmore Signature has frets that are not the correct size. They should at least be a Medium Jumbo, and the tuners Ritchie changed to were a locking set, and the dot inlay markers should be MOP, not plastic. The color could have been modified to look like an Aged Olympic White with a 3-ply Mint Green guard and they could have offered a little cool add on to the electronics, made by John DAWK Stillwell the Master Tone Circuit, MTC. Ritchie had these in his guitars when DAWK used to be his tech and worked on all his guitars during his Deep Purple and Rainbow days.

The instrument looks very promising with good "blackmore" sound but there are some major issues with the blackmore strat i have:
1. strings fall off the fretboard wtih very or no bend at all - high and low E strings.
2. the fret tips from fret number 5 to number 1's edges are very badly angled - promotes this slippage.
3. the bridge or rather the string spacing is very wide compared to the american standard spacing ( limits playability).
On the other hand the scalloped neck is fun to use especially with this particular neck.
i decided to replace the bridge to a fender genuine highway one narrow bridge which also enriched the sound and made the e string slippage much much rare. and of course playability is better.
It is a good guitar but it didn't have good QA before sent to the store. I still have my frets edges unevenly cut which seems like no one really cared about it at the factory... that's a shame.
