This guitar not only rocks, it can sing!
The unique MP-90 single coil 'soap-bars' give it a brilliant and a bit a smokey voice in so many shades and colors.
It comes with a first-class finish. Honestly, I would have estimated its prize to some 1,500 bucks. It weighs about as much as a strat, which is perfect, and it's perfectly ballanced for playing comfort. Everything is just where you would want it to be (and yes, the volume control is a bit too close to the strings, as has been said here before).
Actually, I had been looking for something more jazzy than my beloved SRV-style Strat, as I had come back to jazz-blues fusion recently, and I had given a few ES-335 style axes a try for this reason. While I was disappointed of those, I stumbled across this Jaguar on my way out of the shop. I took it up and fell in love with it - not at first glance - but at the first tone I played. The sound is great, it's absolutely marvellous in fact, out of the box.
All I had to do, was change the strings for .12 D'Addario Jazz flatwounds and tune it down half a note, and it's the perfect guitar I had been looking for first place!
This guitar is definitely more than a beginner's choice! With your eyes closed, you could even think you're listening to a PRS Hollow II, which costs about 15 times as much.
Today, the Jag is among my favorite three guitars (the other two being a vintage handcrafted accoustic Western style 75 Fender, actually the first guitar I ever owned, and the SRV-Strat, of course).
Get it while you can!

I love this guitar. It came in a cheap box from Thomann.de and was roughly set up. The initial impression was already good; I felt the vibration of the strings throughout the entire guitar and the sustain was great and I hadn't even plugged it in yet.
Once I changed the strings and set the intonation I started playing for real. Awesome tones; from creamy blues-tones to gritty hard-rocking filth.
+The neck is solid as a rock and the scale makes it super-easy to play. The rosewood fingerboard compliments the mahogany body very well, both in terms of design as well as sound. A good neck is essential to a great playing and sounding guitar.
+The pickups sound awesome, they're not noiseless but then again I'm not frightfully bothered. I can get beefy, clucky and warm sounds off the neck-pickup and biting distortion off the bridge-pickup. The guitar seems to favor a slightly treble-y sound which I like.
+The price is just awesome, you get one hell of a lot of guitar for your money.
-The only gripe I have with this instrument is the close placement of the volume and tone controls. Due to this, I sometimes hit the volume knob by mistake when I play.
This guitar is quickly becoming my main instrument as it seems to suit any purpose. Simply awesome guitar.

Strats, teles, Pauls, ES-355s and more~ the iconic gits of the last century and I'm an old man who played them all. At the end of the day they all have pickup selectors and tone controls and that's it. Try setting an amp completely flat, use the headphone out, leave the guitar knobs all the way up and plug each of those guitars in and play them for a while, switching between the pickups. That's the actual sounds of those guitars!
After that begins the knob twiddling, gain and amp twiddling, pickup mods, string changes, etc. to suit a particular style or achieve a signature sound.
Now with all the "simulations" built into amps, apps and daws most of the fiddling can be done virtually, which is wonderful.
This guitar came setup perfectly in a cheap cardboard box from MF. The design and hardware are simple and solid and these noiseless P-90's seem suited to the 24 inch scale and have a bit of reverb-like shimmer. The 24 scale allows me to play intricate patterns and riffs that I haven't been able to do for years on standard necks. The super slinky string gauge allows me to bend freely.
Yes the finish is ugly. Yes the strat jack looks silly (but it does grasp the cord's plug with a satsfying click). Yes, I've never liked the CBS era headstocks. Oh well....
This is a GREAT sounding guitar and (when played through simulators) iconic tones from the last century jump out all over the place!
Let the fiddling begin.

Man oh man, I love Fender, and I have loved my stratocaster for 6 years now, always loved the Design of the Jaguar, and now with the Modern Player, it is affordable, very playable, and the fact that the wood is MAHOGANY is enough to kick your shoes off. The tone is magnificent with the P-90's on there, bright and FULL sound. Versatile guitar, perfect if you play anything from Rock&Roll, to Hard Rock, Surf Rock, Reggae, virtually any style. Again, the Tone, Finish, Neck, and frets are all comfortable and amazing. Highly recommend this guitar for anyone looking for an outstanding piece.

Event though the sales guy complained of its weight as he brought it over, it suits me fine. The mahogany body looks tasty under the 2 tone chocolate burst finish. The balance is perfect when using a strap.
The neck is comfortable and smooth to play.
The pickups go from sizzling, high end honkyness to rolling off the tone knob to get a velvet laden boomy stereolike depth. Great sound in this price point, so I am undecided on aftermarket upgrades being necessary. I will have to adjust the action/bridge to suit me when I put on larger gauge strings, although the stock ones are comfortable and responsive.
I do not especially care for the jazz bass knobs, but as a bass player first - I did not care for them on the bass either. I can replace them simply enough. I love the top mounted Strat style output jack! The tuning keys are firm and solid.
I got this on a Columbus Day sale price, plus an instant in store rebate of $30, so I was out the door for under 300.00 - cha ching! Icing on the cake!
Check it out!

Relative to its price, this guitar is by far the best in terms of quality and playability out of any I've ever owned - though its quality would be competitive at any price.
I love the stripped-down aesthetic and the fact that all this simplicity is available in the Jaguar/Jazzmaster body shape...probably the coolest shape Fender make.
Short scale length and amazing action mean the easiest guitar I have ever owned to play.
The tone from the P90s is massive and has many layers...unique.
I love the tone, playability, as well as the price for this guitar. It was exactly the sound I was looking for. The finish and feel are excellent.

I've been a hollowbody guitar player for years. Recently I decided that I need something solid that can handle all the fuzz I've been using live. I originally wanted something that tonally could be dark enough that the jump wouldn't be so drastically different for my sound. After testing quite a few guitars, this Jaguar seemed to be the best. The heavy body is very dark and thick in sound. The neck is amazingly thin and smooth. The pickups are a bit cleaner that the p-90s that I've been using. But nice enough where I'm not going to replace them for a while. Overall the quality is pretty incredible considering the price point. They few people who have picked it up totally fell in love with it. Two of them being owners of American Fender! I would totally recommend this to anyone who loves Fender but wants a super beefy fat sound! Its all wood.
