The PJ pickup configuration tempted me to buy it, but sadly Squier have fitted ceramic pickups which are cold and brittle sounding, and let down what was nearly a great bass. Factory set-up is poor, strings flap and rattle and is awkward to play. This is the only instrument in the VM range which sounds and feels cheap. Dissappointing, wish I'd bought a VM Jazz bass instead.

I have owned American P-basses, both fretted and fretless. I'll tell you what, until I am a multi-millionaire, I will ALWAYS buy Squier axes. If they are set up by an experienced luthier, there is no reason to pay the additional grand you are likely to have to pony up to get into a great sounding bass. My modified P-bass (it is stock, with the J-bass bridge pick-up) stacks up against all straight Fender products at my local Guitar Center and Sam Ash.
