This is a great price on a classically beautiful bass. Mine, however has some things that need to be addressed.
Firstly I need a fret level. Thee are some high spots on frets, that appear to be well seated. I have set up the bass the best it can be without having levels the frets, and it's playable and I use it often, but not as often as I would considering.
I also have scratchy pots, all three are scratchy, but I plan to replace ALL the electronics soon. I don't like the pickups. There I said it. I just don't like them. To me they sound dull and lifeless with a muted top end. There is just not a lot of clarity there. I will likely be getting some standard Fender jazz bass pups or perhaps even some Aguilar split coils. When I do this I will replace the pots.
The bridge was changed almost immediately after getting my bass, as the saddles on the original bridge wandered aimlessly while playing, which obviously has a negative effect on your intonation.
The finish is great and I didn't have a jazz bass at the time so I got the '77. A good purchase, but It will be a project bass for me. I don't rely on it for my daily use. It is a backup and an will become my basis for experimentations.

I've been playing for 2 decades now and I've had my fair share of Fender and Squier basses and let me tell you these Vintage Modifieds are amazing. I originally picked up one of these as a back up. These '77 jazz basses are a little heavy. I like that as it gives it a feeling of being substantial and not cheap. The neck just feels awesome and is fast especially with a lower action. Personally I like these necks better than the Classic Vibes. The '77 has a natural satin neck. The neck is just smooth all around. As I plugged it in, there was no background noise or hum of any sort. The sound from the pickups are strong and clear. Pull both volume knobs up and you get a nice crisp deep tone. I'll be honest with you, I have a Mexican Jazz and I actually prefer the '77. The tuners stay in tune, no issues there. Oh yeah, it looks really good with the pearloid inlays. The name on the headstock means nothing to me. As long it plays well, I'll play it!

I got mine from a friend. Slightly used, no scratches in the body and the chrome parts are still shiny and gleaming. Got it at around $330 bucks.
Anyway, the features and design are pretty standard for what you expect in a Jazz Bass. The "wow-factors" would be the pearloid inlays and the maple neck, that's pretty classy for your average Squier. Another thing that amazed me is that the pickups that came with it were Duncan Designed single coils, instead of the stock Fenders, so I really had a bang for my buck, even though the unit I got was pre-owned already.
Since they are Duncan Design p-ups, the tone is simply awesome. I have an Ibanez Soundwave 60W bass amp and I don't have to set the amp's controls to shape my tone or run the instrument through my bass effects pedal chain just to convince me that it sounds great. You can easily shape the tone using the bass' own controls: 1 volume for the neck p-up, another one for the bridge, and one for tone. Plugged straight to the amp sounds neat, even without the help of a bass pre-amp or driver.
My only gripe with my unit is that it seems it has a factory defect. I think it needs some fret-leveling work because it has some "dead notes" on the 7th and 14th frets on the D and if I adjust the action to low. As a possible fix, I tried adjusting the height of the bridge and saddles, and the truss rod of the neck but I just can't seem to eliminate those fret buzzes and dead notes on the 14th fret. Anyway, I'll visit our local luthier's shop one of these days, for sure they could fix it.
Overall, it gets a 4.5 star rating from me. The aesthetics are awesome (I've seen Jason Newsted play something that looks exactly like this: maple neck on an all-black body) and it looks so hot onstage while you're playing through some Metallica or Green Day covers. I play a lot of classic rock, heavy metal, and a few funky stuff and I believe this model is a great fit for those genres.
