I've played many different basses during my 40+ career including several Fender P- and J- models as well as the Urge I model. I bought this instrument as my new "travel" instrument as I felt it had all the features I needed and was built rugged enough to take on the road. I've now traveled and used it many times for over a year and it has consistently performed perfectly. If you require a durable, professional five-string bass that delivers every time, the Fender Deluxe Jazz Bass V is an excellent choice.

I purchased the Fender American Deluxe Jazz V about 2 months ago. I have the natural ash with maple fingerboard finish. It is a beautiful pro level instrument with looks and features to suit many musical situations. The N3 pickups and on board active electronics package have a very versatile and musical range of tones, from dub/reggae to Jaco like burpy and clear mids, also good for rock, and I could see how it may work for metal, but I usually don't play the latter 2 styles. This bass really shines for slap, finger, and pick styles with a slight adjustment of the 3 band EQ. To me, the mid control is the heart of any active tone circuit, and Fender has nailed the woods/construction and mid frequency combination to accent all the right tonal frequencies. The playability of the asymmetrical neck and compound radius fingerboard allows for very low action and as a result I sound a lot better :) After spending a month with it, I have tweaked in my ideal set-up for this bass. The ash body is very resonant and combined with the neck gives the bass a beautiful uncompressed full range tone that is captured beautifully by the pickups/ preamp. I have tried the passive sound for live purposes as well, but feel that the active tones are far superior. That being said, I really appreciate the passive tone knob feature. I can't truly comment on the versatility and tone of the passive feature as I think it would shine in the studio and I haven't recorded this bass direct yet. The 4+1 tuners and high mass vintage bridge give this bass a solid feel, tuning stability and add to the great looks/playability. Unlike many, I am not a fan of the block inlays or binding, but the rest of the bass makes up for that. Overall Fender really gave me a product I am proud to own and justifies the large price tag. The battery terminals and better noise rejection are about the only things I would improve about this model.

This my first Fender Bass. I have been playing bass for years and have never owned a Fender. This bass has a beautiful look and sounds awesome. It will purr like a kitten or growl like a Tiger. The neck is fast and feels very comfortable moving up and down the fret board. I would love to own A pawnshop VI.

I was looking for a 5 string Jazz Bass for the longest time and now I've found it. This is a well built instrument with great playability and monster tone. the B string has astounding clarity and depth, the asymmetrical neck profile makes playing the neck very comfortable and the contoured heel and larger lower cutaway make upper fret access a breeze.
The electronics are very flexible and offer passive and active mode. The active mode does pick up some hum in some circumstances but it's not enough to be a problem, perhaps more effective shielding is required however this does not detract from a bass that is highly flexible and useful. a true workhorse and represents excellent value, well done Fender, this has become my go to 5 string bass.

I can't go back to any other bass! It's incredibly flexible, very responsive and precise, and has that beautiful universal Fender tone. This is the perfect bass for any style of music, because of how adaptable it is. Not only is it a great sounding and playable instrument, it looks SO sexy, especially in the natural finish with the black pearloid block inlays! Overall, it is the absolute perfect bass for anyone who is very versatile in their playing, and has a passion in what they play.

This my third fender bass, I had a fender jazz V 24 and a Presicion Hot Rod. Now Im a custom bass player and for some reason I felt I needed something with a classical look but with a moder amd vintage sound at the same time. This bass gave all. Incredible low B and clear mids this bass can handle all. The only thing I still can not understand is why 21 frets. The rest is pure perfection.

In my opinion, Fender has finally created a five string bass that is the "whole package" with the look, the playability, and the sound that any bass player desires. I have waited patiently for many years to get a great five string for under $2000 and it has been worth the wait. Fender has done a great job with this one.

This is a great 5 string Jazz bass. I have the Natural finish model with maple fret board & black pearl block markers. This bass is just plain sexy!! This is a very versatile bass, it comes with a set of Fender N3 Noiseless pickups & it can be played in Active or Passive mode that allows you to dial in many tones.
In passive mode the Master volume, the pickup pan volume knob & the Passive tone knob work & in Active mode the Master Volume, pickup pan knob, Bass, Treble & Mid knobs work. The neck on this bass has a great feel & I really like the Hipshot tuners & string retainer on the B string.
The stock 82505M strings that come with this bass with the taper B & E strings are a nice touch & have a piano like ring to them. There's also a sculpted heel, that makes it easier to play notes in the 15 to 21 fret area.
The American Deluxe Jazz 5 also comes with a Fender SKB Flight Case with re-enforced corners & plush Back interior. This bass screams Quality & attention to Detail. Fender did their homework on the current American Deluxe line of basses.

I would like to say that I Love All of my fender basses, they have their own individual personality. But 24 fret is the greatest of all of them but their not offered anymore. In my opinion the active / passive , with the scoop switch is it guys ( period ). Fender should have this in all Fender stores but with various tops and colors and Fret board tops. With 21 fret options as well , recently i got a quote for a 24 fret custom with everything basic except the color and hardware color and it was way out of my price range for that . It had to be master built for it to be 24 fret. I love fender basses and always will but that wasn't the price that I was looking for. All of the luthiers out there making Jazz Basses are making their basses based on the Great fender basses and their too pricey. No one can match the Fender as far as I am concerned. I would love to have the job of testing fender basses against the other competition to give feedback on what to improve or change etc. And of course I get to keep the ones I test. Fender is the Cadillac of Bass and guitar, I know the market is competitive but we should always be open to changes . Yours truly 24 Fret

Flawless until recently when the nut gave way on the B string side. The design of the nut due to the binding is the top is wider than the base of the nut sorta like extended ears to the edge. Very little material there. A respected luthier is doing a bone nut for me now the bass is 3 years old now I am not willing to send it away for weeks to fender even if the warranty was good. I love the bass. I would not hesitate to replace with same if stolen or damaged. I am a working musician.
