John 5 is a self-described “Fender fanatic” with a jaw-dropping collection of his favorite instrument, the Telecaster (“the greatest guitars ever built, by far,” in his words). His Squier signature model, the J5 Telecaster, is a double-bound beauty based on his oft-modded workhorse Telecaster.
Features include 5’s distinctive black-and-chrome look, a double-bound alder body with a gloss black polyester finish, a polished stainless steel pickguard and chrome hardware. The one-piece maple neck has a “modern C” profile, a matching black Telecaster headstock and a 12”-radius rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets. The custom-designed humbucking pickups use a special dual-volume setup with the bridge pickup control in the front position and the neck pickup control in the back position (5 prefers this setup because he spends much time giving the bridge pickup a workout). Rapidly toggling the upper-bout three-way pickup switch gives you 5’s signature “kill” effect by turning off the neck pickup volume and leaving the bridge control full up.
Now also available in an all-gold model with Frost Gold finish, matching gold headstock, gold hardware and single-ply “gold mirror” plastic pickguard.

Not sure if there is a lot extra I can say about this guitar that the other reviewers haven't already. I can't believe what I have for around £360! The gold finish is truly stunning and makes the guitar look at least five times it's worth. The neck that J5 boasts in the ad video is excellent, fast and smooth. The guitar came in tune and well set up out of the box, I have had it for a few days now and haven't noticed a single blemish on this guitar and considering this was made in China I am incredibly impressed.
I own or have owned an ESP EC401VB, a PRS Torero and a Gibson Les Paul studio all costing £600-1000 and this sounds fantastic and I would put it up with those playability and sound wise for almost half the price, the Gibson is seeing less action now!
If you are considering this guitar and are on a tight budget, this is a cracking guitar. If it got stolen I'd replace it and all I can say is well done, I am very happy indeed with it! Get one!

This is one of the best guitars I have ever owned or played. Everything about it is top notch. Sounds great live and at home. This thing is built like a tank and can anything you throw at it.

I know a lot of people who turn their noses up at Squier guitars but I've handed my Squier J5 around to let my friends play and they've all commented that they can't believe that a guitar that looks and plays this well could be so reasonably priced! Not only is it gorgeous with the mirrored pickguard and white binding and black headstock but it has a fast neck and just feels great in my hands. I often pass up some of my more expensive electrics and grab this one when I'm jamming with my friends. My only complaint is I wish the pickups were just a little meatier but otherwise I love this guitar. If I had to sell off all my guitars this would be the last one I'd let go.
