Decent guitar for a beginner

All I can say is this guitar packs a huge punch and huge tone to it. Whatever amp you plug it into gives a womp of sound to it. Its playability is good and it's a good back up guitar. I personally like that it's based off an older model of a telecaster (The 1972 Fender telecaster deluxe) and I really like how the stratocaster influenced head looks on this telecaster. The only thing I would say bad about this is its input jacks seem to come loose to easily so I'd get those checked out on this guitar every month if its your first and only guitar. I dig its maple neck, maples are always my favorite, and it doesn't matter to me if it was in white or black, either way it looks great as ever but it's whatever you prefer as the buyer. As a back up guitar you might as well just keep it the way it is and make sure it at least works. I customized mine to have two duncan designed pickups however. The one pickup just doesn't quite do it for me. It's good to start off with but once you start playing bigger venues you want more tonal quality especially on the neck area of playing. If you're a Sum 41 fan (like myself) you'll dig this guitar. Deryck Whibley did a nice job with this model and fender did too as well to get our younger players to get started on learning guitar.

SUM 41 Deryck Whibley - Signature Model

(3.0)
spastronaut on February 20, 2013 (updated February 20, 2013)
Professional Blues Alternative Rock Pop Rock Heavy Metal Punk

Made in Indonesia (2010), this particular guitar is great for its novelty value, featuring Sum 41's front man, Deryck Whibley's signature on the headstock, and the red graphic crosses on the body of the guitar. As far as the quality goes, this guitar gets extremely dirty very quickly, especially on the neck of the guitar, as there is no gloss feature. However, this guitar surprisingly has a great tone, and you can feel that old school punk rock tone from the minute you switch on the distortion pedal. Although, I don't recommend this guitar if you're going for the classic telecaster 'clean, twang' sound. This guitar features a 1 volume and 1 tone knob. I recommend this guitar if you are looking for an extra piece of equipment in the rehearsal space, the novelty - if you are a hard-core Sum 41 fan, or even for a small gig, but not so much for the studio. Overall, impressed with what this guitar can do, considering it's a Squier made in Indonesia.
