Squier's Vintage Modified Jazz Bass Fretless fuses the slippery sound of an upright and the sleek style of an electric, with dual Fender-designed pickups and a slim "C"-shaped maple neck with a vintage-tint gloss finish. Other features include a fretless ebonol fingerboard with white fret-marker lines, four-saddle bridge, chrome control knobs and hardware, and open-gear tuners. Superior fretless sound and feel for today's bassists, with superior Squier performance and value.

The first impression I had about this bass was oddity. Its ebonol fingerboard is totally different from traditional wood. It is not smooth as wood. However, it is not a bad thing about it. It makes the 'nosy' sound even warmer, and it is not eroded by the string grooves. It sounds totally awesome when equipped with flatwound strings. For those who are venturing through the fretless world, this instrument is a great choice. The price is a good point as well (even in Brazil, the most expensive country in the world for musical intruments).

I received this beautiful bass as a late Christmas gift from my wife. To be honest, I have had an on and off relationship with the Jazz Bass design, having played a number of them and while the balance and playability are never an issue, I could never get comfortable with the tone. That being said, here goes. First, the fit and finish are way beyond what I expected at this price point. The playability is on par with a Fender Jazz that I played when on the worship team at church-fantastic! This little jewel also feels like a much pricier bass- solid and very responsive. Finally, the area I was most concerned with-tone. In a word, Wow! I have tried every possible variation of volume and tone controls, and I can't get a bad tone out of this bass! I can foresee many years of enjoying this bass, and having owned and played about a dozen different basses in the last 34 years, I really wish I had given Squier a shot years ago. Thanks to the hard work of the fine folks at Squier, their bang-for-the buck is unmatched anywhere!

I have had this bass for about 3 years now. I play it mostly at home and gig with it every now and then. The tone is fine and the body is great, but the neck is not straight at all. Maybe I just got a dud, but I have tried and tried both myself, experienced bass playing friends and professional guitar techs have not been able to straighten the neck. The action is higher than I like and it still buzzes when playing above the 14 th fret or so. Some day I will put a replacement neck on it....unless Fender wants to send me a straight one ...wink wink, nudge nudge;)
