I bought a Mustang I, completely on a whim, because it was so much better than the Fender Frontman I had been using, which cost more and was basically garbage. I gave the Frontman to Goodwill. The Mustang I was way better than it had to be for the no-brainer price, and I got some good use out of it. Unfortunately I could never register it with Fender for Fuse and I never got the Ableton download. I'm not the type of person to pick up the phone for something like that, so I sold the amp to a friend in need of a practice amp, and went straight out and picked up a Mustang II, one of the new ones with the V2 firmware. It is completely awesome, also a no-brainer at the price.
This amp will realistically simulate the dynamic response of a tube amp, and at the volume where I actually want to play, it responds better than my 65 Deluxe. Don't get me wrong, the Deluxe is not for sale, but it's sweetness range is way louder than I want to play at home.
I haven't really gotten into tweaking it. Just by turning the knobs I found a reverb that's uncannily realistic and a gain setting that I love. I never got into the software on my Mustang I so I'm a bit behind on that.
As an ASIO device, don't expect the low latency of a pro-level sound card. The quality, yes, but the latency is a bit too long for use as a performance interface. I don't think the III and IV are any different in that regard, but at least they have XLR outs so you could go the analog route pretty comfortably. (And your USB might give you better than the 20+ms latency I get, and I realize this probably doesn't matter to 99% of the people who will read this review, if they even understand what I'm talking about :-)
Anyway, the Mustang line is probably hurting sales of higher end Fender solid state amps, because these amps sound better than they have to for the price.

When I first started playing guitar back in the 90's, practice amps were the biggest pieces of junk and so limited in their features and quality. My mind is blown by the versatility and quality of this amp. The fender fuse software that gives real time control over the effects chain and modeling is just awesome, and the library of models and backing tracks on the fender fuse site is great too. I am so happy with this amp, I can't even believe how cool it is. I am going to test it recording direct to computer too and see how it goes. Great product at an awesome price. I would say that without some computer savvy, one might find it difficult to get the exact tone they want. But in today's world, the techies win. Thank you Fender for such an awesome product. I will recommend it to anyone.

I have plenty of large heavy amps, but I wanted one that wouldnt blast my head off if I wanted to practice in my room. I researched and played several amps about this size and I settled on this one because you can get so much out of it! The clean sounds that come off of the 65 Twin Reverb amp model are so clear and stand out above anything I heard from Line 6 modeling amps and several other non modeling brands.
Now for the dirty channels, the british models are emulated quite well. I have not put this amp beside a marshall, vox, or orange for a direct side by side comparison, but I am pretty confident you will find a sound you like. The "british Color" amp model (orange amplifier) has the best distorted sound in my opinion because you get a nice crunch but its not muddy. If you play with the metal 2000 setting on this amp you may not like what you hear. Its certainly heavy enough but it sounds muddy to me and just doesnt cut it for metal. When I do metal riffs I stick to the "British Color" or the "American 90's" amp model. They are alot clearer and are plenty heavy for most things.
The different effects on this amp are mostly pretty nice. It has a great reverb, decent delay, plenty of room to play around with flangers, phasers, distortion pedal modeling, and so much more. The one effect that just lets me down a bit is the phase shifter. Its just not up to par with a BOSS, but hey.. Its included in a $200 amplifier. This little incredibly lightweight amp is plenty loud for jamming with your buddies, sounds great at low and high volumes, and is all around the perfect amp for having a variety of beautiful tones, carrying around in a small car, playing pretty small gigs, and having a blast with. Hook it up to the Fender Fuse software and fall in love.
If you are looking for your perfect small amp, this is it! Ive heard some people say the controls are complicated but I promise if you spend 5 minutes figuring it out its really simple. Get this amp
I bought this yesterday and since I have explored most of its features. The interface is easy to use and understand and any possible queries can be resolved with a look at the instruction manual. I bought it to replace my old starter amp due to my purchase of the American special strat and it carries the sound well. It's a very versatile amplifier and is very loud! So I needn't worry about buying another if I went to gig. I would recommend this amp to anyone still exploring their sound due to its flexibility and not to emotion value for money.

I've played acoustic guitar for years. I just recently bought an electric guitar and the Mustang II amp. It's a good learning tool if you are not familiar with guitar effects. And with the right settings, it makes a great acoustic amp as well. The FUSE software is pretty cool, too. You can create and store your own effects. If you are playing onstage, you can have different effects for each song. A good tablet computer mounted on a mic stand might be handy for this. I would like to see a "playlist" feature in FUSE.

Bought this amp just on the off-chance one day in my local music store. For £120 you cannot go wrong!
The modulations are fantastic, you can get almost any sound you want out of it.
I would say the negative reviews coming out for this amp are just from people who don't spend the time tinkering with the software to get the most out of it.
I mainly rip around with the metal settings, zero reverb and a high grinding tone. However, it can also pick out a very clean tone with the classic mods.
I can't recommend this amp highly enough for the price.

Capable of an excellent clean sound, and from mild to wild with amps, cabinets and effects. You'll have to use the Fuse software to get satisfactory results. As others have stated, a mid knob would be good, as would a line out jack, and the ability to chain two effects from the same category.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with this amp, and have absolutely no buyer's remorse. Good value for the money.

I had an old Fender FM 25 DSP amp and something was wrong with it so I took it back to the music store where I got it and since it was still under warranty I was hoping to get the amp fixed. instead I got this amp, and after a week or two I was ready to just get rid of it. It's good if you like all the presets, but I use pedals and all I want is a clean channel and only one of the presets is somewhat clean but it still has a bit of reverb.
The fact that there's no middle control and 2 volume controls annoy me and it's hard to hone in a good sound. WOuld not consider buying, or recommend to any guitarist. I want my DSP back.

I jumped aboard the gravy train and went and bought this version back in February at my local Guitar Center. I will say one thing for this amp and that is, for a 40 watt combo, this is one very loud amp! Now as far as the tone settings are concerned, this amp could've benefitted from having a midrange control on it as far as I'm concerned. I did try the fuse software and to be honest, if you're not computer literate, which I'm really not, then this can be really confusing as far as programming the settings on it. I had a very hard time trying to figure out what was what as far which setting is the right one as far as my sound is concerned. Plus, I tried hooking up my Digitech RP-50 to it figuring I could just use the clean. Well, that made my pedal sound like crap. Now, this amp is just sitting in a corner collecting dust while I try to see if anybody is interested in buying it. I love solid state amps but, modeling amps are just not for me.

the distorted sound is very bad. the clean sound is ok, but the 57 deluxe is good for 60s blues.

This is a superb amp for practicing and gives a good selection of tones and features for your money. Its compact size, and versatility makes it a great amp for practice, and whilst i know a tube amp may give a 'warmer, truer sound' in the view of many, i prefer the flexibility offered by these solid state amps.

I have been searching for awhile now to find a good amp to practice at home with. From all the internet information i found, the best setup would be a tube amp and several different effects pedals. I went to my local guitar center and tried a few amps and found that the tube amps sounded good but were very exspensive. So an employee suggested i try the Fender Mustang 2. I could not believe how good it sounded. It has 24 preset sound effects that can be changed by me or downloaded with the Fender Fuse software so i don"t need to buy any effects pedals. At $200.00 it's the perfect amp for home or to take to a small gig. Thank You Fender !

This amp is excellent! It sounds great from clean to dirty. This amp is good for you if you like experimenting different kinds of tones. Each amp models sounds great and sounds close to the actual amp it simulates! This amp is also good for recording because it has a USB interface which connects to your PC and record low latency and high-quality audio.

I purchased this amp in October 2012 after doing a fair bit of research. I needed a versatile modelling with good quality tone and authentic sounding models. After trialling it in store was more than happy to purchase. I am a teacher and play not only for myself but with school bands. This amp allows me to jump in with the various bands and get right to the sound I need without too much fiddling around or a variety of pedals. Love it.

I bought this amp 2 years ago after reading many reviews and demos. I was impressed by the sound produced by this little amp. It has the capability of reproducing the sounds of many different amps and doing it well. I don't have a lot of room and didn't want to invest in a lot of additional pedals and such. With the Fender Fuse software, I can get the tone I want without the additional hardware. Very impressed. A lot of value for a very affordable cost.
