Best Ive owned for a while

This is a good bass, very good for the money in my opinion. The thing that struck me first about the guitar was the weight and feel of it. It's solid, dense and well balanced; when you take your hand off the neck, the head doesn't fall towards the ground, as it did with some of the lighter-bodied basses I've owned. It seems to be quite heavy, so maybe that's not to everybody's taste, but I like heavy basses so it's fine for me.
The neck is a joy to navigate - slim and not sticky in the slightest. I had trouble with fret buzz when I first bought it, as the action was too low, but that was easily adjusted. Another problem with set-up was that the A string had been strung too high on the machine head so it barely made an angle when passing over the nut, resulting in a lot of jumping and buzzing when the open A was played. I had to buy another set of strings and re-string the guitar to make more of an angle over the nut. These are both pretty minor things but something to be aware of if you (like me) tend to thump away at the strings.
The tonal range from the pick ups and 4-way selector switch is very good. I use the two single coils for most things but switch to the humbuckers when I need more girth, which the guitar supplies with gusto. I rarely change the settings on my amp; just adjust the pick ups, volume and tone, and I can get what I want.
It doesn't really seem to go out of tune even though I pound away at it. I tuned it at a rehearsal tonight but that's the first time I've had to do so for about three weeks!

Overall I would recommend this guitar to anyone on a budget who wants a good, reliable bass with a decent sound.

Chinese American

I prefer this Chinese bass to any of the American or Mexican fender basses I have played so far. I love the addition of the satin finish and the pick-up selector switch. The humbucking pick-ups are punchy and sound great! It's amazing value for money! The pick-up switch/coil tap allows for a great tonal variety. My personal favourite setting is to use a humbucker on the neck and a single coil on the bridge. 100% recommended!

Made to combat eb13 and Won!!

This bass is one of the most versatile basses on the market for this kind of money. The rotary switch makes it 4 different types of bass and completely alters the tone. You get two hum-buckers, a pj bass, a hum-bucker bridge and single neck sound, then a classic jazz sound. And if you roll off the volume on the bridge pickup you can get a p bass tone. I use and external pre-amp and can even get it to sound roughly like a music man. I can see this bass was made to combat the gibbo eb13 and even though it costs half the price it still wins the tonal battle. The pickup pole positioning doesn't make any difference and of course it come set up better than any bass I've ever owned, even my Mexican p bass.

Disappointing

Semi-Professional

I sent it back. The pickups, while very musical, were seriously lacking in note fundamentals. The 4th setting on the control switch is also pretty useless. If you look at the design of the pole pieces, the non-satin Modern Player J bass would be a much better choice.

The thing i love most about this bass is the ability to get pretty much any tone out of it you desire. It has a very nice raw jazz bass sound. However since it has the humbucking neck pickup you can make this sound like an authentic P bass! It is very adjustable in tone. it actually tends to run pretty hot on the pick ups for plenty of tone and volume adjustment. I also iove the craftsmanship of this bass. the frets are sound down nicely so you dont have to worry about the frets digging into your hand. over all i can say i play this more than my american standard jazz bass. Also, if you are looking at Mexican made basses, stop looking just get this one. you will thank me later!!!
