More about Vintage Modified Jaguar® HH

With its offset waist, contoured body and 24” scale “fast action” neck the new Vintage Modified Jaguar® HH gives a nod to its iconic forbearer but has other things going for it that make it truly 'modified'. The unique top-loading hard tail bridge features string saddles which are adjustable for intonation and designed to have a 9.5” radius when sitting flat on the bridge plate. The bridge is anchored at the rear of the plate while the front sits atop height adjustment screws, which can be raised or lowered to achieve desired string height/action while subtle adjustment at the rear (anchor) achieves the correct bridge angle. The Jaguar HH is equipped with a set of Duncan Designed™ pickups, which offer a multitude of “hot-rodded” humbucking tones. Other features include '62 Jazz Bass® concentric volume/tone controls, vintage style tuners and a comfortable one-piece maple neck with rosewood Fingerboard.

Features:
It's pretty straight forward, pickup selector and 2 knobs to adjust the volume and tone of the selected pickup The lowest knob is for the bridge and the other knob is for the neck. Basic and easy.

Design:
It sits nicely on your lap if you play it while sitting. It's good.

Playability:
Plays smooth, fast and easy. You want some power chords? Not a problem. You want to hit some notes for a solo? Also not a problem. I am an pretty aggressive player, but the guitar doesn't seem to mind that. The pick guard has scratches from the guitar pick. But while playing, i don't seem to notice it. Your playing is pretty much without interference of the features on the guitar.

Tone:
Great tone. Good for light music and good for distortion. Some say that this guitar sounds bulky when playing it in clean. I disagree. Sounds pretty light in clean and pretty heavy in distortion.

Some extra details:
The vintage tuning pegs, i dislike them. Changing strings is not so fun. You have to put the string in a hole. The strings can pop out of the hole while winding. This happens more frequently with thin strings.

And for the Nirvana fans. This is a great guitar to play those Nirvana tunes with. For those that can't afford the Kurt Cobain Jaguar, this one is right too. I actually couldn't tell the difference when playing the KB Jaguar. It sounds the same from my perspective!
Yes, the KB jaguar has more knobs. But remember that Kurt Cobain taped some knobs, even he didn't seem to like it. And besides, don't think that knobs are that important. So if you want to play Nirvana songs but can't afford the Kurt Cobain Jaguar, don't be sad. You have this cheaper alternative guitar and with the same sound. You don't have to believe me. Go to the store and check it out for yourself, i am maybe wrong. But i doubt that, heard the Nevermind album countless of times. And this guitar nails the sound of it.

A Nirvana freak? Get it.
A rock fan? Get it

Got mine over the holiday as a price match deal. To say it exceeded my expectations is an understatement. I got the fiesta red and it is hideously beautiful. The color is awesome but the pickguard looks like a scab. I plan to change it out to parchment in the future. Otherwise finish is nice, though I did find a stray black fleck on the back of the headstock. Tiny really and no big deal to me. Otherwise the craftsmanship is top notch with a tight neck pocket and good finish and hardware.

Set up was good out of the box. Needed only minor adjustments and lower action. I don't know what all the complaints about the bridge are about. It is straight-forward and easy to intonate - it just takes an extra step or two. It's got a couple of uneven frets that I'll level next time I change strings. It's not super bad or unplayable, but there are a couple of dull spots on the fretboard that seem to coincide with those frets. The fret ends aren't finished as nice as my other guitars, so I gave those with a quick once over with a file. These are minor details that I don't mind tending to, especially considering the price point. I suppose if I'd have paid for a pro set up they would have done these things for me anyhow

The most important thing is that the sound of this thing is incredible. I'm partial to the humbucker sound and these are nice and bright if you want them to be and can growl just as easy. I have small hands and love the short scale. It's a breeze to play while sitting because of the great body form-factor.

All in all the only things I might change, beside the pickguard, is to add a coil tap switch to broaden my tone options and I might wire it 50s style to counter the loss of treble as you roll off the volume. Otherwise this guitar is a dream in every respect. If you are looking for a traditional Jaguar look somewhere else. It's "vintage modified", so it doesn't bother to try be the real deal. Get over it. It is a fun to play tone-beast.

Quality control issues abound with my unit

My wife bought this Online for a great sale price [199.00 + free shipping] from Guitar Center (who says they only ship boxed units as received from the manufacturer).
Out of the box it was awesome! Fiesta Red was a bit more orange to my pleasant surprise, and it was flawless.
The features were exactly what I wanted; simple and direct with 3-way selection, and one tone and one volume. The neck was smoth and I did not notice the shorter scale much (I knew wjhat I signed up for lol) The bridge was ok, but good for price point.
Then it went downhill. After minor tuning I plugged into my Fender Frontman 212 combo. The neck pickup seemed to only output 70% but the tones were good and the knobs functioned well; however the bridge pickup did not put out at all....nothing, nada, nyet. Very disappointing.
I took into my local GC the next day to fix; I really wanted this guitar! However I played a Fender Modern Player Jag with P90's and for $70 more I walked out with that.
I wasn't expecting alot for this price, but I did expect it to operate. Probably a fluke...may have happened at some point in shipping - unit was packaged immaculately and solid...but I had to rate it on the actual unit recieved and it was not good.

This guitar is great for the money. At first I thought the pickups were authentic duncans, but I guess I misread the description as it is actually "duncan designed" pickups, but in any case they are still great sounding pickups. I was hoping that the HH model had a tremolo system, but it only has the set bridge and the strings rest upon it as opposed to a strat where the strings go through the body. Never had a jaguar before so it was quite odd to have a fender (or squier) that didn't have a tremolo. The playability is good if you have small hands because I think the neck is smaller than the regular scale. I have the fiesta red with tortoise shell pickup...i think that's one of the reasons why I bought it because of it's great looks and color. I bought the guitar along with a small practice amp (line 6 micro spider) and it sounds pretty good. I am wondering what it sounds like through a big rig. The harmonics are not bad sounding, but not as bright as a regular scaled neck. The pots are pretty damn good for a 200 dollar guitar. So if you're in the market for a great sounding Jaguar, but don't want to pay full price and don't mind the "squier" logo on the headstock, then this guitar is for you.

Amazing modified of a classic

I've always wanted a jaguar ever since I started playing guitar and seeing Kurt Cobain use one. I finally got one. I love the shape and sound. When I got this I really didn't know much of a difference between pickups and settings and stuff. I would love to get a classic jag. This guitar is perfect for grunge, punk, garage, and I can even get some metal in there. It definitely adds something new to the jag family. Sonic youth new. Yeah I would love the floating bridge, but this just makes a cool different sound. Only thing I hate is stringing it, the pegs are so hard to get the string in and right. I have the fiesta red. I love fenders colors.

This guitar sounds beyond amazing. The pickups alone are outstanding. The body has got a great feel, good hardware, and a great finish. The neck and tuners are pretty awesome too. I've been playing for a long time, and I have ever played a better Squier guitar. It feels just as good as my '78 mustang, which seems crazy to say, because I paid 3 times as much for the mustang.

Alternative Jaguar... NO BAD!!!

This abnormal version of a jaguar makes it interesting to use very minimal, mainly due to its fixed bridge, the original is not a great invention and inefficient. Fairly light, very good quality, maybe I would have preferred a 7" radius neck, the pickups are good without excel (all in all are design), very good with the 011 gauges, the bending is good, I recommend it, very good for the quality/price ratio
