Squier® is very proud to introduce its new Telecaster® Bass Special, which presents an exciting new sonic and stylish twist on a long-familiar design. Its time-honored body and headstock shape are well balanced by a comfortable medium scale length (32") that will appeal to bassists and guitarists alike. Remarkable tonal versatility comes from its large chrome-covered Fender®-designed Wide Range humbucking neck pickup, Duncan Designed™ JB-102B single-coil Jazz Bass® bridge pickup, and three-way blade switching (both pickups together and each pickup individually). Other distinctive features include black "barrel" switch tip, knurled chrome control knobs, vintage style bridge with four chrome saddles, vintage-style tuners and strap buttons, and single-ply pickguard (white on Black model, black on Vintage Blonde model).

Great idea for a bass. Sounds superb, especially with both pickups on. Neck pu is thick and soft, bridge pu is a hot jazz, so it breathes and growls. Looks beautiful too, especially in blonde. Amazing value for the build quality.
BUT. Three things let it down. Firstly the body is BIG and needs to be made of something light. It should probably be chambered too. But as it is it's too heavy. I couldn't play it on a strap for more than a song or two.
Secondly, the neck is a big thick club. Yes I know it's a Tele bass but the mid-scale suggests Fender could have profiled it a bit finer. Not a deal breaker but almost.
Thirdly, the G string seems too far over. It slid off the neck a few times and sits outside the coils on both pus. The problem seems to be at the bridge rather than the nut. This is simply unacceptable nowadays.
Overall, if I received this as a present I'd be very grateful. But I won't buy one. Hopefully the problems can be sorted prior to the next production run.
When I tried it in a local store, I was hooked. The tones (with the 3-position switch) are great. The touch of the maple neck is always a welcomed feeling. Although it is a medium-scale, the difference is not so drastic compared to a long-scale bass. I got the black (with white pickguard) and it is beautiful. The only drawback would be its weight. It is heavy (with a wider body).

I have owned a black one for about six months now and enjoy playing my Tele bass so much. I sold another brand's bass soon after I bought the Tele Special with two pickups. It has a deep thud from the humbucker and crisp sound from the Duncan jazz. Putting them both together is what gives this bass the sound I have been wanting. It also has a nice neck width and I love the maple fretboard. This is an excellent value for money!

What a fantastic bass. A bit hard to get the right balance between the super hot mudbucker pickup and the great Duncan J pickup. But once there, it's great! Stack knob controls would give total control and put this fast playing bass outta da ballpark !
You don't even notice the medium scale, it is so much fun to play.
Finally a proper Tele body on a Tele Bass !
