More about American Standard Jazz Bass® Fretless

The American Standard Jazz Bass® Fretless is the same graceful and beautifully voiced instrument it has always been, and it's now upgraded with Fender Custom Shop '60s Jazz Bass single-coil pickups.

It's the latest incarnation of a distinctive and classic Fender bass hit introduced more than 40 years ago, and it now sings, snarls, grooves and growls more powerfully than ever.

This instrument is a nice surprise, very good playability, nice tone, very nice neck. I have hard time switching back to a fretted bass after playing this bass for some time. The thing came with strings that might need a change, but that is a personal thing. As a whole, it looks good, sounds good, it is good. It is somewhat hard to make an accurate rating, but it is more five stars than four.

The jazz bass has always been my go to bass for both recording and live. I own p basses as well but the tonal variety of the jazz is unbeatable. I have other brand basses that I have paid more for and I never use them. My most recent purchase was a 2012 american standard jazz and even with one pup soloed the bass is quiet. These custom shop 60s pups are quiet, in a good way. I play in a indie prog rock band with two guitarists and a heavy handed drummer and I am easily heard and felt through the mix. What ever fender has been doing for the past 50 years they should keep doing.

Classic & Still the Best!

I think the Fender Jazz Bass is possibly the singular best electric bass on the market. It has inspired many similar, if not flat out copies from other makers. I do feel that different neck shapes / profiles could be offered. The original is still the best & most versatile bass available. Don't leave home w/o it!

Beautiful, with some issues.

This fretless bass is beautiful and delivers an almost perfect sound. Unfortunately, it feels a little bit cheap ; the satin finish on the neck is too thick making it seem like plastic and not very fast to play. Still a magnificent instrument to play with, that gives a lot of pleasure and lets create a variety of gorgeous sounds.
