Long live Blues Junior

I bought this amp second-hand and was totally blown away. Even if I had bought it full price I still would have been impressed by the value. I believe this amp is the benchmark for tube amps. It delivers crazy-nice clean tones at low volume, crunches over nicely when cranked up and can go pretty mental when properly full-blast. Perfect for Blues/Blues-Rock/Jazz. The reverb is really nice too. It's a shame they don't include the FAT switch but still... It's not light weight but for what it is, it's not gonna get much lighter anywhere else. The only reason I upgraded to a Hot Rod Deluxe is because it just didn't have enough headroom to cut above the drums at practice and stay clean at the same time. I still have it at home though.

I've been playing my Les Paul Studio through my Blues Jr III amp for about 6 months now. I mostly play at low volumes in the house and it sounds great. I have had it out to my friend's garage a couple of times and it held its own, cranked it up there and still got great sound. It's pretty light for a tube amp so it travels well, doesn't take up a lot of space in my bedroom so I can leave it out and use it whenever the mood hits me. It takes pedals well (as long as you buy decent ones - I'm not impressed with Danelectro Fab pedals in bypass mode but my Boss ones are great). I only have one knock against this guitar, why didn't Fender put a stand-by switch on it??? I'd definitley recommend it to anyone who is looking for that warm tube sound and doesn't want to break the bank.

This has to be one of the best Fender amp platforms, putting solid and reliable tube tune into an affordable package. The fifteen tube watts through the twelve inch speaker are louder than you would think, and yet I usually play mine in the house at very low volume these days and I still really enjoy the tone. I like to use a little bit of overdrive pedal along with a compressor, and then dial in some of the amp's own reverb. I think mine is the version before the present one, but I've played several of the current models, and feel that my impression of the amp is still valid. Before I bought mine I read some reviews that were a bit down on the reverb, but I actually like the reverb sound I'm getting, and when I want something a little different I use a reverb pedal. The combination of a Telecaster or a Strat and this amp gets a very nice, clear, biting and very 'Fender' tone: it's identifiable and in a certain category, but it covers more sonic ground than you might think. You can get some very liquid, "tubier" tones with a little bit of adjustment. Also seems to be pretty tough for a tube amp.
I've also been really impressed with all the variations on this platform, with different speakers and cosmetics.
This is certainly one of my favorite amps, and truly excellent value for the dollar.

I have the Blues Jr. NOS reissue of 2012, and if you can still find one - get it. The Jensen speaker makes a huge difference. Beautiful clean tones can be turned into snarling overdrive with a simple turn of the pre-amp volume knob. I play a Strat, Tele, and an LP through this amp and all sound fantastic. The 15 watts are more than enough for practice, a small club, and can be easily miked for a larger venue. The only negative I have experienced is when use an effects pedal it shuts down the reverb. All is well however when I disconnect the effect and restart the amp. This probably could be corrected with an effects loop.

I own a stock Blues Junior amp that I have had for a couple of years. I play an American Standard Telecaster through it almost every day in my modest home studio. The amp sounds great and I get compliments on the tone all the time when I have buddies over to jam. It starts to break up nicely just past mid volume and is easily controlled with the volume knob on my Tele and by varying my pick attack. It accepts pedals well and is plenty loud for my studio or when out practicing with friends. It travels well and is light and rugged. I think it lacks clean headroom to be a serious gigging amp for medium to large venues but could probably be miked successfully. I play mostly blues and classic rock at home and with friends in a garage band and for that, this amp is hard to beat. If I could only have one amp however, I would probably look for a Fender tube amp around 30 watts with two channels and an effects loop with level control. They exist but are a few hundred dollars more than the Blues Jr. If you are looking for a medium to low wattage amp with great all tube tone for small venues that is built well at a reasonable price, look no further. I have played every one I could find in this category and price point. No one came close to Fender.

My Blues Junior is about 7 years old and I just bought it in January 2013. My first experience with a tube amp as this replaced a Mustang II modeling amp. This amplifier has very few bells and whitsles so it is up to the player to coax your particular sound. You or a pedal can provide almost any effect you desire. A tube amp is the way to go if you really want to express yourself with a true electric guitar sound.
Awesome little amp, I use it as a clean base to run pedals through but the built in dirt is good too. Light, very portable and easy on the wallet.
Anytime I know i am going to be miked, this is the amp I bring with me.

Great amp. Fairly portable. Versatile tone and range. Ideal for home or gigging with friends.

For a small amp this one is so so sweet, the more you play it the better it sounds. I play a low volume most of the time at home. I like slow blues and this is one of the best fits for me. You can't go wrong with the Blues Jr tone & the reverb is sweet.

I have the limited edition version of this amp with the Eminence Cannabis Rex speaker and red tolex and think it's fantastic! I mainly use the amp for home practice and small gigs and it is yet to disappoint sounding great at all volumes, I mainly play classic rock/blues based things like Hendrix, Stevie Ray, John Mayer but also use the amp for some surf style stuff with my band. In terms of tone, this is bang on the Fender clean sound that you would expect, not as loud and bright as anything like a Twin Reverb or a Hot rod deluxe due to the the low wattage (and possibly Eminence speaker). The blues junior has no where near as much gain as anything I've owned previously from Marshall, Vox or Orange but i really like that, at full whack you get a nice crunch that sounds very bluesy. Unless you have a serious distortion pedal i wouldn't recommend this amp for anything heavier than ACDC territory. It definitely nails the in-between bluesy tone, clean with a hint of gain that just breaks up under pick attack. The reverb is also great, it seems to add real depth to the tone and isn't too deep and spacey like it is on a lot of other amps I've tried!
Build quality is rock solid and the red tolex makes the amp look a little bit classier than your standard Blues Jr, keep making FSR finishes on your amps and guitars Fender!
Only criticisms are that some other 15 watt amps in this price bracket include nice extra features like in built tremolo circuits and higher quality Celestion/Eminence speakers as standard.

I needed a small tube amp for playing in the living room and for playing with friends in the jam room. I wanted something that was easy to carry and had great tone. The Blues Junior III fit that bill perfectly. The amp is easy to use, the controls are well laid out and the versatility of tones the amp is capable of are immense. You can tweak the EQ to get a respectable Blackface or Tweed tone. You can crank up the volume and turn the master down to get some heavy tube soaked drive. There's not a ton of headroom, but that's to be expected for a low watt tube amp. There is plenty of volume for the band room, and I've seen lots of players gigging with a miked Blues Junior in clubs around town. The Lighting Bolt speaker matches with the character of the amp very well. The only real weak spot for me was the reverb - but I also have a '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue and really no other reverb can come close to matching that. All in all the Blues Junior III is an excellent choice for any player who wants a small, versatile tube amp.
