Road Worn® '60s Stratocaster®

Model : 013101
The Stratocaster® really came into its own in the 1960s, with players coaxing unbelievable sounds from it amid punishing stage shows and grueling tours. Beaten, bruised and even burned, they only got better as the years wore on - looking even cooler and feeling even more comfortable. Fender's rosewood-fretboard Road Worn®'60s Stratocaster delivers that aged look and feel - built to look, sound and feel like it has more than just a few miles on it. Designed with 1960s specs, including a nitrocellulose-lacquer finish and 6105 frets, and supercharged with Tex-Mex™ pickups.

I have searched for a long time to find a vintage looking Strat with the 60s sound. This guitar exceeds any and all expectations I had. First time I plugged it into my amp I knew right away this guitar was meant for my style of play. Smooth Hendrix sounding treble and crisp John Frusciante rhythm. I recommend this guitar to anyone that loves the 60s sound. You won't find a better guitar.

Great for on stage...without the value concern

I got this guitar as a backup to my 1961 vintage Strat. They are both Olympic white, so that sealed it for me. I soon realised that this is a great compromise - a guitar which is probably 70% of the mojo of the original without the headaches of leaving a really valuable guitar around the stage/venue. As such, I have often times left the original at home. The guitar has a nice broken in feel, especially the rounded edges on the fingerboard. The relicing is to a pattern, so I added a few more to make it more unique (bunch of keys, anyone?). It plays great, and the pickups are strong enough to cut through clean in the mix and also handle distortion well. The fit and finish are exemplary for a non-US Strat, with everything working as it should. I have done some mods, though: first I changed the trem block to a Callaham, which upped the tone and sustain measurably and was worth the price. I also rewired the lower tone control to work on the bridge pickup as well, since that pickup has a little too much top end for usual use - it's a simple mod and instructions are available on the web. The guitar now feels right for me. I would recommend trying a Roadworn first, before defaulting to a US-made guitar - you'll be surprised at what the Custom Shop guys have taught them in Mex!

A Good Alternative

The Road Worn classic series is a good alternative to a Custom Shop relic or a 40+ year old guitar if you want that look. If there were no other relic touches done on this guitar, the back of the neck would have sold me on buying the guitar. It has been sanded down and feels very smooth and extremely easy to play. The neck isn't as beefy as I prefer, but it's certainly not a toothpick. When set up properly, the guitar has a good amount of natural sustain. I was not a big fan of the Tex Mex pickups, but they do have a decent push to them. The pickguard and backplate were a little cheesy on the relic touches, but just like the pickups those can easily be changed out for personalization. The guitar is solid and very functional. If you don't mind the cookie cutter relic enhancements, this is a very good guitar from which you can build your own time machine.

I got this guitar as an upgrade from my Squier and believe me the difference is astonishing! Once I got it set up professionally, it played like a dream, easy to bend strings, very little fret buzz, no fretting out, tremolo won't take it out of tune, easy to tune, and most of all, easy to play! The 7.25 radius makes chords really easy (especially for me since I play bar chords with my thumb over the top) and the worn back makes it really smooth and doesn't stick to your hand when you want to move it. It's nearly four years old now and still working properly, all electronics and hardware still work. Also, it sounds amazing, like I imagine a real 60s guitar would sound (from what I've heard on recordings/at concerts)! It works well for me at least (I play a lot of Chili Peppers, Hendrix, Muse) and I have no criticisms of this guitar!!

I simply love it, it plays and it feels awesome, the tone of the tex mex is very rich when its clean and with the distortion gives you a punch in the face. I own 3 stratocasters and this one is my favorite!
