Let me preface my review by stating that my Select (#86 of the first 100) is my absolute favorite bass that I have owned, and I've owned many. But, for the price point I was a bit upset when I first received it. I'll continue with my negative remarks to get them out of the way. At $2300, I expected it to be shielded, and the body edges could have had smoother contours. That's it...now to the praise.

My Select has an amazingly gorgeous top. Whenever a friend or band member sees it, they always comment about how great it looks. When I plug it in, they comment about how great it sounds. The compound radius/quartersawn neck is a dream to play, and the single coils are high output with a very full-fat tone, which is excellent when playing classic rock and blues with my cover band. The fretwork and finish were well done, and it's very comfortable despite the body edges not being as contoured as the American Standard Jazz basses.

Now that I've owned this bass for almost a year(purchased in March 2012), I can honestly say that I'm very, very happy that I decided to purchase this fine instrument.

I can't say enough good about this bass. It's gorgeous, plays like a dream, sounds terrific, balanced perfect, and on and on. Plenty of tone variation. It's the only Jazz Bass I've ever owned that sounds like a Precision Bass when rolling off the bridge pickup. The case and and accessories are also first class. I use a Revonation Cocobolo strap, and it looks like a million bucks. Way to go Fender.....home run!

The Fender Select is a well thought out & great sounding bass made from top shelf materials & craftsmanship, the Amber burst maple flame top is both striking& breath taking, this is a beautiful bass that plays like butter, I love the Quarter saw neck with posiflex graphite rods, the Select single coil jazz pickups are booming, & produce an awesome tone. The Case that accompanies it is equally impressive, with tweed cover, leather sides & handle & a gorgeous plush wine red interior with the Select logo on the Storage compartment ............The Fender Select is First Class all the way.
