Squier brings you the welcome return of a long-vanished Fender classic in the deeply satisfying form of the Vintage Modified Bass VI six-string bass. The original model of 1961-1975 has provided distinctively voiced low end for everyone from the Beatles to the Black Keys, Cream to the Cure, and many others.
The Vintage Modified Bass VI delivers authentically vintage-style look and tone, with a few modern touches such as a comfortable “modern C” neck profile and 9.5” fingerboard radius (the originals were 7.25”), and three custom Jaguar single-coil pickups with notched “claw” shielding rings (reverse-wound/reverse-polarity middle pickup).
Other features include the model’s classic 30” scale (standard tuning one octave lower than a guitar), maple neck, bound rosewood fingerboard with 21 medium jumbo frets and pearloid block inlays, four two-position slider switches (on/off switch for each pickup and one bass-cut “strangle” tone circuit switch), tortoiseshell pickguard (three-ply white-black-white on Black model), two black plastic control knobs (master volume, master tone), and vintage-style six-saddle bridge with non-locking floating vibrato. Available in Black, Olympic White and Three-color Sunburst.

I was fortunate enough this past year to acquire a new Fender Bass VI from Japan. Needless to say, for the money it is a beautiful, well-crafted instrument with an amazing sound. But after waiting my entire life to get a Bass VI, I wasn't too anxious to chance damaging it by taking it a lot of places. So when I saw the Squier version two months later, I knew I wanted one as a "player" so I wouldn't have to worry so much about road wear and tear.
After a five-month wait since ordering it, I finally got my Squier Bass VI. I certainly had plenty of time to read reviews from people who had managed to get their hands on one, and I was wary of a few of the issues that were echoed in some reviews.
I will concur that out of the box, the setup needs a lot of work. Intonation and fret buzz had to be addressed. Another common problem mentioned in a lot of the reviews I read was that of the rough finish of the nut. Mine was no exception unfortunately, as the nut definitely needed a clean-up, but at least the string grooves were cut straight. Other than those two fixable problems, this is a very nice instrument for the money. The three-tone sunburst finish looks great. The neck with its block inlays and bound fretboard is not only good looking, but feels very comfortable with its modern profile. The electronics and hardware are more than adequate in value and performance. Sound-wise the bottom end is somewhat comparable to a Jazz Bass, and for a short-scale bass, that is pretty fair, to say the least. The famous "tic-tac" sound is easily obtainable as well with some pick-up switching. And with two more strings than a regular bass the sonic possibilities become even more interesting.
If you've ever wanted to own a Bass VI, and one that is fairly close to the original model of the sixties and seventies, this is a very reasonably priced and more than passable version of that classic. I've owned just about every Fender bass model ever made, but nothing else is like a Bass VI.

The SVMBVI is a blast to play. The neck feels great and contoured body is very comfortable. This thing sounds awesome. A lot of tone possibilities from the three pickup design. The stock strings are much too light. I've switched mine out to 95s and it sounds a lot better. The bridge is the main design flaw. Very hard to intonate the low E. Other than that, this thing rocks. Buy it if you can find one!

You can't beat it. It's beautiful, fun, and WAY affordable! While I've been working on a project, I realized I needed the type of voice that this guitar has and man, it fits the bill. BUY IT!!!!

I'm so happy for the new Squier Bass VI, I've bought a few days ago, it's a very nice guitar, and in my opinion not much difference with some high cost bass VI guitars in the world!
about the gauge strings on this Squier VI...the informations say: .025 - .095...but this is not correct...in fact the strings I've found are D'Addario .024 - .084 like in modern production of Fender Bass VI included US Custom Shop, Japanese and Pawn Shop Mexican models...but is not a big problem, I will replace the E low string(too "floppy" for me)with a single string for bass D'Addario .090......a good compromise, I think.
anyway, I'm really satisfied, an excellent product and very good price
