My wife let me splurge this birthday and I purchased a three tone sunburst Coronado, sight unseen, which is usually a bad idea. But I can finally play acoustically without waking up the whole house. I have to make an outline or else I'll ramble on and on.

Overall feel - I wasn't sure what the larger and wider bottom on the bass body would feel like on the arm and body. I thought it might be too cumbersome, but it's absolutely perfect. It never feels like your arm is going to slip off the bottom. It's impossible. The Coronado is one of the heavier semi-hollows, so be sure to have a good comfortable strap. The polyester gloss makes the neck very fast and comfortable. My only complaint has been acknowledged by others already and it is the pick guard placement, but I can overlook it for one reason. I hardly ever turn my volume down on the bridge. Either I'm on full or will switch to the neck pickup where it isn't an issue.

Tone - One word. Versatility. You can really get some J and P tones out of this thing. It's an all-in-one bass as far as I'm concerned. It really has a Dimension characteristic about it. While you can get those tones, this bass has a sound of its own. The warmth in the tone is incomparable, but it is unmistakably Fender. The Rumble amp adds to the possibilities.

Looks - Pictures do not do this bass justice. The Coronado will never be confused for anything. The gloss is immaculate and protective. All of the color options for this bass are excellent. This was the hardest decision I've had to make concerning color option.

Overall impression - This is not a competitive bass. It is not trying to keep up with other manufacturers. The Coronado is distinctive and blows other basses in the same price range away. Nothing about it was an afterthought. This bass does not feel, sound or play like a "Modern Player" series bass. Great acoustics and electronics.

For anyone in the market for a semi-hollow bass the Fender Coronado is a no-brainer.

Being an "elder semester", one of my early heros were the Small Faces with Kenny Lane at the bass. Short after release of the Coronado bass in the mid nineteen-sixties, Lane was to be seen with various models of the Coronado bass from 1966 on (Youtube).
Their records were coined by Lane´s expressive bass playing and the special melodic sound of the hollow-bodied Coronado, playing a dominant role in their songs.

Since I never owned a Coronado from that time, I was stoked by Fender´s re-issue of this model. One is mine now since a few days!

I am absolutely enthusiastic about this bass! It is not "that hollow-body" in sound as the original was, what might be due to the center block added to the re-issue, making the guitar more stable against feedback. Anyway - everything is possible fromn rock to jazz, blues and pop.

What strikes me most is the high level of craftsmanship proven with this bass! I had some quiet doubts whether "MIC" could catch up with other manufacturing countries. I can tell you by this example: yes, they absolutely can! The finish is stunning in every detail, the choice of the visible wood couldn´t be better, the frets are finished perfectly, the fret board is fast and feels great. If at all, the origin may perhaps be identified by the metal parts, of which one or the other appears a bit sharp-edged, but: remind the price!

My Coronado was playable without any reconditioning from my side - which means something! The only thing I put hand on was the pickguard, which I do not need and which impedes free access to the bridge PU´s volume knob. No problem with removing it!
The three-way PU toggle switch offers a usefull variety of sounds, and if your fine-motoring is sensitive enough you will be able to achieve nice tweaking of sounds in the middle position by controlling the neck PU´s control knob.

I fell in love with this instrument, it is my favourite bass now.

I had never seen Fenders original Hollow-body bass before until this year, and I'm really glad they brought it back for a new generation of players to enjoy. It's one of those basses I just fell in love with on sight!

Currently I own a Squier P-Bass and a Fender Aerodyne Jazz, and this offers me a wide tonal range, within one bass, that the P and J can't produce. The pickups are much further apart than on other basses so, if you tend to rest on them, the sound ranges strongly between bite (bridge) and boom (neck). Playing in between leaves you without a thumb-rest, but it's something I've gotten used to.

I checked the action and neck, and it took me very little time to improve it's playability and intonation. It's a CIJ (crafted in China) model, so I wasn't sure what state it would arrive in, and I was very impressed!

When you see this bass in real life, it is truly stunning. I bought the Candy Apple Red finish, and it looks sensational. My favourite feature is the carved wooden 'F' logo set on the floating bridge.

For the money, and the quality in production, this bass is a champion!

I was looking for a classic-looking, vintage tone bass that stands out from all the Ps, Js, Thumbs, MMs etc, and I couldn't be happier with this offering from Fender
