I have never really been drawn to the 5 string bass, although when I do play one I have enjoyed the low tones, but never enough to want to buy one. Over time, I thought that I should have one for my collection just because. The Jazz Bass is one of my all time fav basses. I simply love Fender basses overall. When I went to the Guitar Center in Syracuse, I saw one and played it for over an hour. What a beautiful sound and somehow the 5th string started to find its way to my hand. Squier basses and the Squier brand overall has come a long way and is hands down the best value in the biz. I would not hand over this bass for any other 5 string, mainly because the cost was so reasonable, but the sound and feel was equally great. I have owned over 100 basses in my lifetime, and this one will stay with the other 11 I own. Squier is cool, Fender is cool...they are brothers. I wish Squier was around when I started playing. Back in my time, you owned a Fender or a piece of junk. Today its different....you need the desire first, then the talent. These basses will help you get their on a budget. Enjoy.

Every time I read a review I think someone from the company wrote it lol but I'm not. I've been a certain fan boy of a different brand of guitars and this is my first purchase away from that brand and I'am extremely happy with it :). The tone, looks and especially the feel (didn't even go try it before I bought it smh.. It was a vain buy) are amazing. If this bass is sitting on the back burners of your mind do yourself a favor and go for it, you won't be disappointed. On another note, I think this bass is a great foundation for customization WHICH is what I'm doing :). Again, if your thinking about it just do it you'll love it.

Just picked one up and it sounds as great or better than basses that i tried upwards of $1500.
This baby sounds great as is. Love it!!!
Absolutely love this bass. It plays lovely, sounds great, looks sweet and doesn't cost the earth. Highly recommended.

I was looking for a second/backup bass to my customized Fender Deluxe Active Jazz V. After reading a lot of great reviews, I decided to go put my hands on a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz V at the local guitar store. I could tell right away that this bass had potential. I bought the Natural Finish model because I love the look of it (I really love the Marcus Miller signature jazz model that Fender makes, but they're expensive so this is probably as close as I'll get to owning one). After a little bit of setup work (a small tweak of the truss rod, several turns of the saddle screws to get the action lowered to my liking, and setting the intonation) I couldn't stop playing it. It felt great and played nearly as well as my Fender with the custom neck. I did order an aftermarket loaded control plate with an on board 9 volt preamp to replace the stock controls. I prefer a master volume with a blend pot and more tonal options (much like my Fender Deluxe Active Jazz) over the stock volume, volume, tone plate that this guitar comes with, but that's just my preference. This mod really made the Duncan designed pickups come alive! In my opinion, this bass can't be beat in its price range. It's as good or better than basses I've played priced much higher. If you're looking for a great bass for a budget price and you aren't a brand snob and it won't bother you that the head stock says Squier, then you need this bass! You won't be disappointed.

This is my fourth bass and I have no idea why I waited to buy it. I'm a retired military guy who lives in Saudi Arabia and low and behold I found a Fender shop. This Squier bass plays better than my Washburn, old school Gibson Grabber, and my Peavy. The neck is smooth and the tones are very nice. It sounds great going through an amp or straight through the board. The Duncan Design pickups sound very good as well. I purchased it new from a Saudi store for just under retail so it is well worth the money. Bravo Fender for this bass.
