From people I know the best known battery powered amp is probably the Micro Cube. I have one and have recently bought a Mustang Mini. In the UK these amps are pretty much the same price. The Fender betters the Roland in almost ever way. Most important of all, the sound is in a different (better) league. The Roland can be caught out by trying to sound like a bigger amp than it is. The Fender has more power and a bigger speaker and this may account for the fact that it seems to give effortless sound and greater clarity compared to the Roland. The Mini also has so many options accessed by software on the computer. More complicated to use, but worth the extra time getting to know it.
Drawbacks are that it needs C size batteries rather than AAs on the Roland, that you can't attach a strap to it in the way you can with the Micro Cube and that the mock carbon fibre covering of the Fender has a tendency to become unglued on its edges.
Again this is a better and more varied sounds - better to such an extent that it is in a totally different league. I also like the fact that the handle can be used to tilt the amp backwards to help project the sound.

At least a couple of the sounds are responsive and very playable. I like the effects too! Good, smart features!

I recently played a couple of Mustangs but was really impressed by the Mini. The Fender DSP produces very nice, usable sounds, and some almost right-on amp models. The amazing thing is the volume you get from the little thing, and it is little. I was really blown away by the whole package. Everything right at your fingertips and easy to use. Throw in the Fuse Software (if you are undecided, take the Fuse Tutorial) and you have one heck of a deal. The "tweakability" Fuse gives the amp, in real time yet, is the selling point for me. Portability, infinite sound variety, line out, headphone and aux in. What a great amp to use for home recording! There are a bunch of little amps out there, some even nicer that the Mini but, none of them have Fuse. That is the difference. Fender is over the top again!
I got this amp for my birthday last and was I surprised. It has a ton of effects and you can tweak it with fender fuse software to do almost anything. The best part about it, besides the sound and effects, is its size and portability. Just plug in batteries, set it up anywhere and rock out . Love it
