Is a Fender Blues Jr. NOS or a Blues Deluxe Reissue to much.

For just house playing?

Hi all - new to the site, I currently have a Fendr GDEC 30 and I love it, but I plan on getting a 2008 MIA Standard Strat and I want to match the strat with a good tube amp. I only plan on playing at the house. But I still want the "Tone" and quality sound of a tube amp. I am somehat confused on what to get and was hoping I could get some advice from others. Type of music would be blues/classic rock, and such. Nice clean sound and also that "woman" sound.

In any event, would a Blues JR or Blues Deluxe be too much for house playing? That is would I have to crank it up and drive the family crazy just to get that tone?

I changed the tubes, swapped the 12ax7's for 12at7's and got
some more clean out of it. Not that it needed it, but thats what
happened. Any how it's plenty loud enough even if I want to
entertain the neighbors {sometimes I get a bit carried away}.
As for the "woman" sound I have no idea what that means.

I own both a Blues jr. and a Blues Deluxe reissue and both are great sounding amps. Here's my 2 cents worth on each:
Volume-wise, the Blues jr. would suit your needs better as you have stated you want an amp to play at home. The Blues Deluxe reissue can be quite loud! Having said that, I think that comparatively speaking, the Blues jr. is over-priced. It is a single channel amp and to get both clean and overdriven tones quickly (on the fly), I feel it's necessary to add a pedal (such as a TS-9 tubscreamer). What you end up with is a 15 watt amp and a total cost of around $550 (including the TS-9). If you ever decide to gig with it, it is large enough if you mic it, but too small if you don't.

The Blues deluxe is fine just as is with the greater flexibility of 2 channels and priced around $700 (but you may find a 'blem' discounted by $50-$100). It is loud enough to gig with either mic'd or otherwise, but IMO a bit too loud to play in a civilized neighborhood. So, there's your dilema. I have never tried an attennuator (such as a hot plate), but have read that they deal with the volume issue quite nicely. Problem is they cost around $400.

Suggest you go to a store that has both amps (and an attenuator if interested) and allows you to try them out with your guitar (such as a Guitar Center).

I kind of had the same dilemma. I own a GDec, and wanted to move up to something better as well.
My choices boiled down to a Blues Jr and a Super Champ to play in the house. The Super Champ gives me a nice tube tone, and some effects, and it is not too loud for the house. I would love the Blues Jr, but I would have to figure out a way to soundproof the room.

Both of those amps can easily peel the paint off the walls of your home - you would be much better off considering the Super Champ XD - you'll get the tones you're after for less money at managable volumes.

Being a Clapton freak I know the tone you're after. I decided on the Blues Jr NOS. The Blues Deluxe, though more for your buck, was just too loud. Seriously if you are just going to be jamming out in the bedroom the Jr is the way to go.

Problem is I bought one nearly three weeks ago. Just found out they are back ordered until March 26, after initially being told it would only take a week.

The Champion 600 is not loud enough, maybe becuse your playing in one huge room? I am not ruling the Champ out completely but I am leaning towards a Blues Junior. The Champ does have a cool sound but it seems to not be able to push the sound, if that makes any sense.


This weekend I looked at youtube and got very good ideas on amps, with demos.

The one commom issue I find is the control knobs are in the back of the amp on the two models I tried. Makes it hard to adjust the knobs.

I have both the G-Dec and The Blues Delux that I play home more often then Giging out. I must say that The Blues Delux is very loud for a home Amp. You will be more confortable with the G-Dec or G-Dec 30..
