Pretty much any and all. I just picked up a MIM standard, and the country possibilites are endless. The classic arrangement of a standard (S,S) ought to give you the sound you're looking for.

Just stay away from the Artist ones designed for metal heads.

Most country guys I see use tele's go for the standard pickup configurations. One thing to look for is a B-Bender. It seems pretty much to be one of the big country mods(features.) Like the American standard Nashville B-bender.
Still on Fender's site, but some of the online stores list it discontinued.

If you like country tones, go for a standard Tele of some sort, either MIM or MIA. If you want to make your Tele sound like a pedal steel, get one with a B-bender or have a Parsons/White B-bender installed after you purchase it. Gene Parsons and Clarence White developed this novel gadget to emulate a pedal steel; it's a system of levers inside the guitar body that attach to the forward strap button. When you "pull" on the strap by pusing the guitar down and away from you, it bends the B string. I've only played with one once, but it was really cool and added a very distinctive country flavour. I'm sure Fender doesn't make them stock, but there are websites out there that advertise them.

I noticed a B-bender at the GC in Sherman Oaks, CA about 3 weeks ago as well.

As for Tele and country, my 08 AmStd would work perfectly while my 02 Hwy 1 has a somewhat deeper and slightly muddy sound -- better for blues in my opinion.

Of the two thinlines (reissues), the 69 with S S would be the better choice than the 72 with H H.

With out a doubt go for the American Standard Nashville B-Bender. Youll be glad you did.

What do you want to say? That's no Nashville B-Bender.

He was prolly responding to the OP. To answer the question I don't know exactly how much the B-Bender mechanism weighs by itself but the guitar "feels" heavier than a Les Paul.
