I bought a SCXD a few weeks ago and keep running into a problem. When I turn on the amp every thing seems fine but after about 5 minutes of being on the amp starts making a horrible static noise. It seems to happen after the same amount of time every time, and changing channels, volume, effects or anything else doesn't effect the noise. The noise lasts for a few minutes and then stops suddenly and doesn't really ever come back. If I turn the amp off and then back on while its making this noise the noise just continues to sound.
This is my first tube amp so I'm really not sure what the problem could be.
I've recorded some of the sound if that helps figure out the problem at all:

Hi Ac, I suggest that you return the amp for one that doesn't have any static noise. When you purchase something, there is a reasonable expectation that it will perform as advertised. Unless you specified an amp with intermittent arcing, this is not what you paid for. Although this is probably just a bad tube, it's totally unacceptable. Settle for nothing short of a good, fully functional amp! That's the first time I've heard an amp problem. Sure beats the usual text discriptions. Just sorry you've got this trouble with a new amp. Once settled, I would expect years of enjoyment out of this amp. ART _________________ None of Us are free, if One of Us is chained ! |

| I agree, take it back. I just recently got an SCXD and it hasn't done anything like that, so I would imagine that's not something inherent in the SCXD amp. Definitely some kind of defect that should be covered by the warranty. |

| That sounds suspiciously like a bad tube....I had that happen once and it turned out to be one of the preamp tubes... |
