The main feature is the toploader bridge, as it is on Jim's telecaster. It's going to be a very "gassing" model...no way I could afford It nowadays but hope I can test one at least...

That's a similar bridge, in case you're interested:

I live in NJ with 25 minutes from NYC.

No cover for that 11 pm show but I drink minimum (6 dollar beer) per hour show and they pass the hat around, 5 buck donation suggested.

His stuff with Norah Jones and The Little Willies is also fine.

Just finsihed seeing him today on YouTube (Watching You Drown).

An admitted descendant of Roy Buchanan even Jeff Beck with the ability to do Chet Atkinsesque stuff effortlessly.

There's another thread about him where I put up a link to some pictures of his signature Tele prototype, if you wanna take a look.

Amazing player. The guy does something of his own indeed.

Yup Campilongo is amazing.
He uses a very simple set up
Tele>Princeton Reverb.

What is so awesome about him is that he is so very approachable. He answers emails when you send them and even helps you out with figuring out the settings he used when recording a song...really top notch gentleman.

I want to echo what several others have had to say about Campilongo. Incredibly unique player who plays what would seem to be a stripped down set-up, tele and Princeton Reverb with only a Fulltone cable between, and boy can he work wonders with such a relatively simple set-up. I've been listening pretty heavily to his "Heaven is Creepy" album for the last several months, and there's always some new little nuance to his phrasing that I'll catch somewheres in this song or that. Glad to hear his signature guitar will be out soon. He deserves all the attention this might bring to him. Not to mention the honor of having a signature model. I just can't say how much joy his playing has brought me. Not to mention the inspiration.

Take a look to last news from Jim in his myspace today:

My Custom shop Signature Top-Loader Telecaster will be available from Fender in January, 2010.

It will have an exact replica of my neck, and feature pickups custom wound to my specs. They sound fantastic. My goal was to have a woody, full bodied sound while retaining the character of a great Telecaster.

Jumbo frets, a tall "top hat" toggle for easy switching, and a "T" string tree for easy behind the nut bending are all part of the personality of this guitar - not to mention the easy playability and warm sounds the top-loader bridge brings to the Telecaster table.

Additionally, the bridge plate will be flat, without the "lips" originally there for holding the "ash tray" metal cover on older Teles. Personally, I find those lips problematic and a hindrance when trying to pick the low "E" string. I compensate for this on my '59 with a high string altitude at the pickup plate. However, the trade off is high action from the 12th fret up. This "lip-less" plate should make my plectrum life easier.

The Campy model comes standard in "white-ish blond" nitrocellulose finish, the exact color of my original guitar, with a white pick guard. Custom color Orange is available. I'm going for orange.

All finishes will be applied conservatively since I feel most of the great guitars I've played featured "very light" too "nearly nonexistent" finishes. I believe this allows the true resonant character of the wood to shine through. The neck will be lightly finished for a "fast" playability.

The Campilongo Signature Telecaster will be unveiled at the 2010 NAMM show.

Very Happy

I do hope that Fender will be offering a less expensive Campilongo Tele, perhaps made in Mexico for the rest of us. Though I've always been a strat guy, I would be highly enticed by a Campilongo model tele. Nonetheless, I'm quite happy to see him getting his due. I think Jim has done much with the guitar that is worthy of recognition.

I always wonder whether signature models would actually be played by the artist. Sounds like Jim has signed up for an orange one so that would be great.

+1 Very Happy

I'm a strat-guy too but I would like to get a mid-range priced Telecaster and an orange Campilongo would be awesome....but I guess It is not going to happen at least in a short future... Sad
